LOTS OF JOBS
MELBOURNE, Australia.—(AP)
~—Vacant jobs in Australia are
fewer today, but there is still
plenty of employment. -
Secretary H. A. Bland, of the
Labor and National Service De
partment, said the number of va
cant jobs in this Dominion fell
from 140,000 to 100,000 between
August, 1951, and last month,
Bland told newsmen the demand
for workers in many industries is
still in excess of supply. How
ever, there has been a falling off
of employment in the clothing,
footwear, textile and radio indus
tries, he said.
STEAM PLANT SERVES
CANNERIES
SAN P%DRO, Calif.—(AP)—
Five fish canneries on nearby
Terminal Island are served by
4,000 horsepower developed by a
recently completed million dollar
co-operative steam plant.
The canneries checked on over
‘haul costs for their individual
boilers and found they could save
money by constructing the com
munity steam plant.
