up with the weather by pasting an
lumbrella over the number each
day it rains and putting a pretty
sunshine on when the weather is
pretty and the sun is shining,
Wish you could hear us sing our
new songs: “Little Bunny Rabbit”
and “My Kite Goes Dancing.”
We like our new storjes, too.
i “Johnny Cottontail” and “The
White Bunny and His Magic
Nose.”
Jerry Harris brought one of his
favorite story books, ‘Teddy Bear
of Bumpkin Hollow.” We enjoyed
it very much and appreciated his
thinking of us.
Ellice Woods’ Class
Last week our Weekly Reader
told us that March 20th is the first
day of spring. We will now have
more sunny days. We will also
have windy days for flying kites,
Children are bringing spring
flowers which make our room
look pretty.
Bennie Pierce is back at school
after a leng illness. He brought
a little fish which we have in a
bowl.
The Brownies in Group 6 have
learned a pretty song called, “The
Brownie Smile.”
We are working hard in our
studies. The time is slipping by
so fast. We want to read many
more good books.

Mrs. Thurman’s Class
On last Wednesday we surely
did get excited. Mrs. Thurman
handed us our parts for our little
Easter Program. We surely will
have to work hard to be ready by
Easter time but it will be worth
the effort.
We hope Sandra will hurry
back to school. We surely do miss
her and hope that she will soon
be back.
We have been working on our
multiplication tables and our di
vision tables, We like to do arith
metic better than anything else.
We have learned our division and
multiplication tables at the same
time.
Our council members reported
to us that at the meeting last Mon
day all council members feel that
we, as a whole school, were im-

proving. We surely do want to live
up to our slogan that'Oconee is a
wholesome happy place for us to
be.
We got our elay models back to
day. Mrs. Thomas fired them for
us. We are so proud of them. At
the close of school we will each
take ours home,
We had several in our room
this month who had birthdays.
Friday afternoon we had the
nicest birthday party for all of
them, Not just those who had the
birthday but we celebrated every
ones. Our cake was white with
green and yellow decorations and
we all had the kind of ice cream
we liked. Then we played games,
It was so much fun.
Miss Hancock's Class
We have organized a nature
club in our room. We are going
out to look for signs of spring. We
are going to collect interesting
x;)lalnts and insects for our science
shelf,
We have elected the following
officers: President —Jimmy Sey
mour; Vice-President — Donna
Tate; Secretary—Gaynelle Roling;
Treasurer--Doyal Conley; Pro
gram Committee—Mary Lesseur,
Patricia Manley, Jimmy Hansford,
and Rucker England; Recreation
Committee — Lacretia Vinson,
Harriette Hawkins, Linda How
ington and Eloise Prather.
Several children in our class
have been sick. They are Wayne
Hammond, Jerry Colley, Buddy
Gurley and Billy ewell. Louise
Pierce has moved to Comer. We
are sorry she had to leave us.

Miss Wallace’'s Class
We like to keep check on our
progress in school. Tests show us
a lot. We spent some time last
week reviewing to be sure we
were ready for tests.
Our attendance is better now
that some of our students who
were sick are again able to be
back.
Our science experiments with a
carrot top, sweet potato and seeds
are coming fine. We have learned
that it takes water and sunshine to
bring new growth to these things.
‘We miss Miss Kelley very much.
We hope that she can come back
to be with us some.
Spring is here again. We like
spring and decided to write some
poems about spring. Here are a
few of them.
Spring Is Here .
Spring; spring, spring!
Hear the little crickets sing?
See the flowers blooming gay
And the children laugh and play?
Fun for all as we sing,
Because it’s spring, spring, spring.
. —Jimmy Escoe

Spring Has Come
Hello, here comes springl
It is a lively thing.
You and 1 can sing,
It makes our hearts ring
Just to know it's spring.

Mrs. Hopper's Class
There was quite a bit of rivalry
in our Red Cross work last week.
Our class wag divided into two
teams, Mary Seagraves and David
Carter were the captains, Mary's
team had the largest amount of
money for the Red Cross. We were
very proud of our donations from
both groups. The same teams hope
to have a nice game of soft ball
sometime soon, when all of our
members get well and back to
school.
One of the nicest pictures we
saw last week was, “Sleep. For
Health.,” We learned from this
picture, to feel well and happy,
one must get enough sleep. Have
a regular time to go to sleep each
night, Fifth grade children should
sleep at least ten hours each night.
Jerry Adams brought us a nice |
surprise last week, it was a spi
der’'s home ‘for our science shelf. l
It is very interesting to have this
home for our study. '
Mrs., Mackey came last Friday‘
and told us a very interesting Bi- |
ble story about Daniel. We hope |
to finish many of our Bible mem
ory verses soon,
—The Class
Mrs. McCoy’s Class ,
Last week in science we studied
the universe, We also had reports
on the planets. Sara Stephens re
ported on Neptune, Melinda :
Threlkeld on Uranus, Marlene
Little on Mercury, Chirley Welch ‘
on Saturn, Sonny Garrison and
Florence McClain or the Earth, |
Donald Mathews oa Pluto, Sandra .
Martin on Jupiter, Peggy Adams |
on Venus and Fae McCune on |
Mars.
Each grade made a poster for
the lunch room. Our class made
a poster of a pig eating corn. At
the top of it we painted these
words: Are you a pig? Remind- |
ing everyone not to make a pig of
himseif.
Next week i$ test week. Most of
us have studied very hard this!
quarter. We hope to make very
good marks on our tests and onl
our report cards also.
Peggy Adams and Willie Fae

last Tuesday. Many improvements,
we think, have been made in the

We Don't Carry A Cheap
I ing Matt
We feel that there is nothing more important to the health and |
well being of a person than a good nights rest, We further believe
that a cheap mattress is, in the long run, the most expensive. Eve
ery day you see where somecne is offering a $59.50 mattress for
$39.50 or even less. In 99 percent of the cases you are getting a
$39.50 mattress for $39.50. No merchant in his right mind will go
on the market and buy a mattress and immediately offer it for sale ]
at less than he paid for it. - i
