$185,000 in 1951, Approximately
85 percent of the pork livers sent
to packers are condemned and this
represents approximately $650,000
annually. Approximately 94 per
cent of the kidneys are condemned
by packers each year,
Because of these faults and
others, hogs produced in Georgia
dress out three to five percent less
than do those coming from the
corn belt states.
To reduce these losses, livestock

NO “FUTURE” IN DERBY
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — (AP) —
Prior to 1914 the Kentucky Derby
was a “future” race. Owners nom=
inated horses they expected to run
in it during the year the horses
were foaled. Subsequent payments
were made to keep the horses eli
gible. Since 1914 the Derby has
been a late closing race with nom
inations usually closing in Febru
ary.
