Ferrer Stars In
Merry Movie, Opens
At Palace Today
Paramount’s “Anything Can
Happen.” the new comedy film
opening today at the Palace Thea
tre, stars Jose Ferrer in his first
screen role since hig 1950 Acad
emy Awardwinning appearance in
“Cyrano de Bergerac.” Co-starring,
with the talented Mr. Ferrer is this
William Perlberg-George Seaton
production is Kim Hunter, vivaci
ous young actress also cited by the
Academy for her supporting per
formance in “A Streetcar Named
Desire,” adjudged 1951’s best.
“Anything Can Happen” is
based on the hilarious best-selling !
book of the same name written by
George and Helen Papishvily. The
story details the amusing and
heartwarming adventures of a
recent arrival in the U. S. as he
learns the strange and wonderful
ways of life on the American plan.
His hilarious palopy journey from
New York to California, his wild
eyed pursuit of a pretty miss, and
his ultimate transformation into
a hep and happy citizen key the
laugh-provoking sequences of the
film,
Ferrer, who plays the recent ar
rival, is not only an amazingly
versatile actor, but an authentic
“Wonder Boy” as well. He is an
accomplished dancer, linguist,
composer, painter, designer and
singer. (In “Anything Can Hap
pen,” he lyrically woos hig lady
fair to his own guitar accompain=
.ment.) Other Ferrer specialities
include producing and directing
Broadway plays that have a habit
of outlasting most of the com=-
petition.
Miss Hunter, the eye-pleasing
object of Ferrer’s romantic cam
paign in the comedy, has scored
on. the-stage as well as in films,
Téft the cast of the Broadway
hit, “DArkness at Noon,” to enact
the merry proceedings of “Any
thing Can Happen” on New York
location and in Hollywood.
Producers William Perlberg and
George Seaton are old hands at
fashioning fresh comedy hits.
Among their most notable suc
cesses are “Miracle ,on 34th
Street,” “Rhubarb,” and most re
cently “Aaron Slick From Punkin
‘Crick.” Seaton handled the dir
ection on “Anything Can Happen”
and wrote the screenplay in col
laboration with George Oppen=
heimer,
The supporting cast is headed
by Kurt Kasznar, Eugenit Leon
tovich and Oscar Karlweiss, who
makes his belated screen debut at
seventy-six.
Support Pri
C. A. Ward, chairman of the
Clarke County PMA Committee
today announced the price support
rates on the 1952 crop of wheat
and oats. An interim wheat price
support rate has been authorized
in Georgia of $2.35 per bushel.
This interim rate, applicable until
the final rste is announced, is for
wheat grading Number 1. 3
The final price support rate will
be computed on the basis of par=
ity as of July 1, 1952. It is expect=-
ed that the final rate will be
slightly higher than the $2.35 in=
terim rate. Loang on the interim
rate may be increased later if the
producer makes this request. If a
supplemental or corrected loan is
not requested, and the wheat is
taken over by Commrodity Credit
Corporation at maturity of the
loan, the difference between the
interim rate and the final rate
will be paid the borrower at the
time of take-over.
The price support rate in Geor=
gia is 96 cents per bushel for 1952
crop oats which grade Number 3
or better.
To obtain loans on farm stored
wheat and oats they. must be
stored in an acceptable building
on the farm. This building must
be inspected and approved by the
County PMA Committee, accord
ing to Mr. Ward. If a farmer does
not have an acceptable building
he may obtain a loan fromr the
government to cover 85 percent of
the cost of a grain storage bin.
This loan must be paid back in
five yearly installments at 4 “;mr
cent interest per year, Mr. ard
further states that for further in
formation on grain loans and loans
for ltoraia bini, farmers should
contaet the local PMA Committee
office.
