CHEMiCALS AGAINST DEER
CEDAR FALLS, lowa—(Aß)—
A new type of chemical will be
tried in an effort to halt ecrop
damage by deer in this vicinity.
The test will be supervised by bi
ologists of the lowa Conservation
Commission on a farm adjoining
Josh Higgins State Park.
Six acres, exposed to deer de
predation, will be planted to soy
beans and treated with the repel
lent. Two other acres in the same
tract will be planted but un
sprayed.
The tenant on the farm, Henry
Thies, says that he tried to raise
soybeans on 11 acres two years
ago but the deer ate the tops off
the plants. The result was no
crop.
