Southern Gets
Safety Award
BIRMINGHAM, June 27 —
Southern Airways has again won
an aviation safety award from the
National Safety Council, company
president Frank W. Hulse announ
ced Thursday.
It is the third such annual award
to be handed Southern Airways,
which has not suffered a fatality
to passenger or crew. during its
entire history of operation.
In making the announcement,
Hulse attributed the company’s
perfect safety record to “reliable
DC-3 equipment, alert flight crews
gnd skillful mechanices.” He ad
ed:
“Another reason, which should
n’'t be overlooked, is a proper at
titude of service. Scuthern ~Air
ways maintairs= a rigid policy of
considering every detail import
ant, even concerning ground ser
vice to our passengers. We deem
this attitude necessary to the safe,
fuccgssful operation of any air
ine.”
Within Southern’s classification,
only 14 of the nation’s other air
lines achieved the Safety Council’s
repirement for the award.
Finland and the Baltic states
import most of their petroleum
and its products from the United
States.
Sicily supplied most of the
world’s sulphur for centuries.
