nearby Lake Blackshear the first
school safety patrol camp in the
world, a Georgia project for com=-
w»bining recreation with life saving.

the dedicatory speech and a 13-
year-old school girl, Donnis Lloyd
Cheek of Dacula, provided the
name and slogan.

a-winding between New York and Chicago, and Abraham Natha
son, of Brooklyn, N, Y., covered every mile of it on foot. It took
the Eisenhower admirer 33 days to tramp the trail leading to the
Republican National Convention.

The camp has eight dormitories,
a mess hall, playgreunds and a
swimming pool, all valued at
$400,000. It will provide recreation
and traffic safety instruction for
3,000 boys and girls each season.
Governor Talmadge told how
the state, Veterans of Foreign
Wars, other agencies and public
spirited individuals joined hands
in building it. He noted that
deaths of school children on Geor
gia Highways have dropped from
more than 100 to less than 12 a
term since the patrol was organ
ized in 1937.
