COOLING OFF AT POLITICAL CONVENTION—Despite the
heat and the thought of a red-hot political battle, policeman Melvin
Flunkett, surrounded by five bathing beauties, cools off in a three
ton pile of snow dumped at the west side of the International
Amphitheater. The pile is a visual demonstration of how much
snow would be required to cool the convention hall for about four
minutes, if air conditioning wasn’t being used for the first time at
: _ the nominating convention. 4

NO MALT IN ‘MALTED MILK’
NEW YORK — (AP) — Two
Brooklyn brothers who operate a
luncheonette, were held for Spe
cial Sessions Court when they
failed to explain satisfactorily
why: they sold maltless *“malted
milk” througn arink dispensers.
The arrest was made by a De
partment of Markets inspector
who said she purchased a ‘“malt
ed” without malt and then found
there was no malt in the lunch
eonette.
The magistrate urged a city
wide drive against inadequately
serviced automatic drink dis
pensers which, he said, do harm
to children by depriving them of
nourishment.
The first Queen Elizabeth of
England and the ladies of her
court wore mourning during Lent
and the custom was continued
until well into the 19th Century.
