The withdrawal «>f this odious meas-
ir<* from the House of .Representatives
rhere it has been so erroneously placed
or passage by its misguide ]* author, is
•tow being eagerly expected by the
abused tax-paver# of Clarke county.
They have a right to expect it. They
• nave a right to demand it. The mcaa-
' irea of the bill arc obnoxious to them,
and if passed and made effective would
oppress them beyond toleration. The
universal sentiment of Mr. Tuc k’s con
stitueney is loudly pronounced against
the passage of the bill and this alone is
suli edit to justify—nay o demand—
its withdrawal without having it to
hovet longer over their heads, a threat
ening. insult te their protests.
Mr. Tuck surely must be apprized ere
this that his censtituents are opposed
most violently to the passage ef this
bill. Their opposition is almost unani
mous and Mr. Tuck’s respect for their
opinion should prompt hint to with
drew the bill from the legislature at
once.
We believe he will de this. One
thing at least is certain, if Mr. Tuck
hopee to return from the legislature
with a concioutness of having dis
charged his honest duty to his ^consti
tuents he will see to it that this bill goes
no further in its usurping course.
The cousolation remains, however,
even should Mr. Tuck refuse to with
draw the bill, scores of ldytl law-makers
will rise up ami crush the. obnoxious
measure te a timely death aud destruc
tion.
