night of May 4, and when they return

James Knight, an employe of O’Sulli

Witness Boynton relative to the occur

the cross-examination he severely im
paired the attempts of the defense to
show by former witnesses that early in
the evening on May 5, when the Hy
land cousins called O’Sullivan was not
at home. He said O’Sullivan was at
home at 3 o’clock that afternoon and
remained there until he left with the
Hylands at 10 o’clock. •
James Minnhan, another employe of
O'Snllivan’s, reported the story about
what took place at the O’Sullivan
household on May 4 He also rendered
null, to the great extent,.the testimony
of the Highlands, -who declared that
they did not visit O’Sullivan’s house be
tween May 5 and last Sunday, bv swear

Continuing. Minnehau said that he got
O’Sullivan s cards from the printer last
May and distributed a number of them

Jacob Schnur, trunk manufacturer,
testified to having examined the bloody
trank, look, and paint-stained key in
possession of the state’s attorney; "that
he manufactured the trunk and many
others like it and that the key and look
had many duplicates.
Patrick Brennan, another employe of
O’Sullivan’s, told of being in the ice
man's house on the night of May 4; of
all having supper between 7:30 and 8
o’clock, and of O’Sullivan and Mnlca-

for admission to the Cronin murder

been attracted by the announcement
that John Finert.v, Justice J. D. Lyon,

half of John Beggs. The testimony
of these men, it was understood would
be in relation to the inner workings of
the Olan-na-Gael, and would doubtless
be interesting.
When court convened, however, it
was manifest that the day would not b9
given over to the testimony in behalf
of Beggs, as the testimony for O’Sulli
van. was not complete.
Miss McCormick,- a sister o*
Tom Whalen, O'Sullivan’s relative,
was the first witness called. Exam
ined bv Lawyer Donahoe she testified
that sue was at Mrs. Whalen’s on the
night of May 4 and that Brennan and
the other men who have sworn to

After supper witness and Mrs.’
Whalen went out to a friend’s. It was

to the settlement of the gubernatorial
question. The call will be made publio
in a few days.
There has been considerable 00m-
plaint throughout the state oh account
of the governor's delay in tms matter.
Over a year has passed since the eleo-
tion for governor, aud the contest that
ensued has not ret been settled. The
oommittee appointed by the legislature
was in session nearly all summer, and
adjourned early iu September after
completing its investigations. It has
been claimed for the governor that he
has been waiting on the report of the
committee to call the special session,
but the committee holds that such a
wait is not necessary, because the com
mittee is not obliged to report to the
governor. Why the governor has de
cided to call the special session in Janu
ary, when it ooulu be held now, is, in
the minds of many members, inexplica
ble.
