candidates for positions on the 1913
eleven reported to Coach Heisman.
It is reported that Devore, the^ for
mer West Point tackle and an all-
American choice, will be engaged as
assistant coach and will have charge
of the line men, with Coach Heisman
giving his attention to the backfield
and Assistant Coach Alexander to
the scrubs.
The Tennessee prep schools stars
who have entered Tech and who are
boosted as certainties on the eleven
their first year are naturally attract
ing the most attention.

Connie Mack—Cornelius McGilli-
cuddy—manager of the Athletics of
Philadelphia, sometimes called the
greatest baseball club the game has
known will begin his fight within a
few weeks for a fourth world’s cham
pionship. There isn’t much doubt
now that the Athletics will win the
pennant in the American League, and
there is fcyery likelihood that the Gi
ants will win the pennant in the.Na-
tioal League. *„
I Connie Mack, if successful, will
probably be hailed as the greatest
manager baseball has known — out-
; shining Frank Chance, under whose
imanageemnt for years the old Cub
j “machine” was believed to be the last
| word in baseball. Connie Mack’s
j club doesn’t play so much inside
j baseball as the Cubs did under
1 Chance, aided by' Tinker, Evers and
•Johnny Kling, but wins as often.
