WESTERN WOMEN
Foreigners in Los Angeles I.earn
Ideals of Citizenship Be
fore Naturalized.
In the east we bewail the voting
of the immigrant says the Woman’s
Journal. In Los Angeles, where men
and women cooperate in politics,
schools are provided that teach citi
zenship to foreign men and women.
According to Dana W. Bartlett, mem
ber of the Immigration Commission,
the immigrants who attend these
schools pass almost perfect examina
tions when they apply for naturaliza
tion papers. A public recognition
service is held when the papers are
received. An orchestra is furnished;
the new citizens sit on the stage of
honor, and thus citizenship is asso
ciated with dignity and high ideals.
Says the East Syracuse News:
“This is distinctly the woman touch
in politics. Women voters do not
•bring in the millennium, but they
certainly introduce the amenities of
life into politics, than which no place
more needs them. 0
