Hair that loses its color and lustre,

Nowadays we get this famous mix

;,o cent bottle of “Wyeth’s Sage and
Sulphur Hair Remedy,” which dark-

dandruff, stops scalp itching and fail

through vour hair, taking one small

THE VILLAGE BLACKSMITH.
Under a spreading Chestnut tree
The village smithy stands;
The smith, a mighty man is he,
With large and sinewy hands,
And the muscles of his brawny arms
Are strong as iron bands.
His hair is crisp and black and long,
His face is like the tan;
His brow is wet with honest sweat,
He earns whate’er he can,
And looks the whole world in the face,
For he owes not any man.
Week in, week out, from morn till
night,
You can hear his bellows blow;
You can hear him swing his heavy
sledge,
With measured beat and slow,
Like a sexton ringing the village bell,
When the evening sun is low.

Look in at the open door;
And love to see the flaming forge,
And hear the bellows roar,
And catch the burning sparks that fly
Like chaff from the threshing floor.
He goes on Sunday to the church.
And sits among the boys;
He hears the parson pray and preach,
He hears his daughter’s voice,
Sing in the village choir,
And it makes his heart rejoice.
It soun’ds to him like his mother’s
voice,
Sinping in Paradise!
He needs must think of her once
more,
How in the grave she lies;
And with his hard, rough hand he
wipes
A tear out of his eyes. ,
Toiling—rejoicing—sorrowing,
Onward through life he goes;
Each morning sees some task begin,
Each evening sees it close;
Something attempted, something done,
To earn a night’s repose.
Thanks, thanks to thee, my worthy
friend,
For the lesson thou hast taught!
Thus at the flaming forge of life
Our fortunes must be wrought;
Thus On its sounding anvil shaped
Each burning deed and thought!

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY.
“To catch Dame Fortune’s golden
smile,
Assiduous wait upon her;
And gather gear by ev’ry wile
That’s justified by honor;
Not for to hide it in a hedge,
Nor for a train-attendant;
But for the glorious privilege
Q’ being independent.”

PRESIDENT’S YOUNGEST
DAUGHTER REPORTED
ENGAGED.
Prospects of another white house
wedding became more definite yester
day with the persistent renewal of
the report that Secretary of the Treas
ury McAdoo and Miss Eleanor Wilson,
youngest daughter of the president
and Mrs. Wilson, were engaged, the
marriage to take place in June.
There was no announcement from
the white house and when the atten
tion of officials was drawn to the re
port they refrained from making any
comment or denial.
Secretary McAdoo himself said it
would he indelicate fpr him to com
ment on the subject one way or the
other. Nevertheless, official Wash
ington is taking it as a definite fact
that another wedding at the white
house will be solemnized in June af
ter the adjournment of congress.
Many persons who know Secretary
McAdoo were not surprised at the re
port because he has been a frequent
social visitor at the white house dur
ing the last year.
Mr. McAdoo is 50 years old while
Miss Wilson fc 24. He is a widower
and has six children, one son and one
daughter being married.
Mr. McAdoo, who is the builder of
the Hudson tunnels, knew # the Wilson
family before his entry into the cab
inet and hasten an intimate friend
of the president since early in the pre
convention campaign.

QUIT MEAT IF YOUR
KIDNEYS ACT BADLY
Take tablespoonful of Salts if Back
hurts or Bladder bothers.
We arc a nation of meat eaters and
our blood is filled with uric acid, says
ell-known authority, who warns us
to be constantly on guard against kid
ney trouble.
The kidneys do their utmost to free
the blood of this irritating acid, but
become weak from the overwork; they
get sluggish; the eliminative tissues
clog and thus the waste is retained in
the blood to poison the entire system.
When your kidneys ache and feel
like lumps of lead, and yoiThave sting
ing pains in the back or the urine is
cloudy, full of sediment, or the bladder
is irritable, obliging you to seek re
lief during the qight; when you have
severe headaches, nervous and dizzy
spells, sleeplessness, acid stomach or
rheumatism in bad weather, get from
your pharmacist about four ounces of
Jad Salts; take a tablespoonful in a
glass of water before breakfast each
morning and in a few days your kid
neys will act fine. This famouc salts
is made from the acid of grapes and
lemortd juice, combined with lithia, and
has been used for generations to flush
and stimulate dogged kidneys, to neu
tralize the acids in urine so it is no
longer a source of irritation, thus end
ing urinary and bladder disorders.
Jad Salts is inexpensive and cannot
injure; makes a delightful efferves
cent Iithia-water drink, and nobody
can make a mistake by taking a little
occasionally to k*ep the kidneys clean
