LEASES ALL CrTTS MOVIES
FOR CHILDREN ON BIRTHDAY
Atchison, K*s., July 20.-Balley P.
Waggener, a local attorney, who was
68 years old Sunday, leased every
motion picture theater in Atchison
and all day Saturday they were filled
with children.
Youngsters from all parts of the
surrounding country came here to be
Waggener’s guests. No limit was
placed on the number of performan
ces a child could attend.
For a number of years Mr. Wag
gener has been giving a children’s
picnic to celebrate his birthday, but
this year his physicians forbade the
event.

Raider Koentgsberg.
When the British monitors opened
fire on the German raider, fhe Koe-
nigtburg, in the Rufiji river in Ger
man East Africa, the other day, and
after a remarkable battle tore her
to bits almost the last defense of the
Germans aghin'st British capture of
the great African territory fell. Just
a fgw. days before that General Botha,
leading the forces of the Union or
South Africa, had defeated the Ger
mans, who had been trying to hold
German Southwest Africa for the
fatherland. He had won territory
larger by half again than the Ger
man empire in Europe, and he had
added that much to the British crown.
The defeat of Koenigsberg will
quickly be followed, it is believed, by
the conquest of German East Africa,
which is nearly twice the size of the
German empire in Europe. Already
Togoland, just west of Kamerun (but
not shown on this map,) a territory
General Botha.
as large as Indiana, has fallen. Kam
erun, which is much larger than the
German empire in Europe, is about
lost.
Thus Germany has practically lost
an empire in Africa as large as the
whole area of the United States east
of the Mississippi river, and one'
fourth as large as the whole territory
of the Union including Alaska.
Whatever may be the settlement of
the war there is no likelihood that
Great Britain will give up any terri
tory taken from the Germans in
Africa. Thus with the Union of
South Africa, Bcchuanaiand, Rhode
sia, German Southwest Africa, Ger
man East Africa and British East
Africa, she will have a contiguous
empire as large as the United States.
The whole German dream of colo
nial empire which Kaiser Wilhelm
has carefully built up for twenty
years will have been dissipated.
