GEORGIA MB MERCER TIE
UP III THIRD GAME OF
SEASON WEDNESDAY
TERMS
The Red and Black baseball team
left Athens thia morning for Macon,
where it will tic up with the Mercer
Baptists in the third game between
the two teams this season this after
noon. It is expected that the game
today will be one of the hardest
fought ever played between the two
colleges.
The Georgia nine has succeeded in
taking one and Mercer has taken one
of the two games played, but the
Red and Black team is now out for
revenge and it is thought that the
Mercer team will play some great
baseball if they expect to defeat the
Red and Black warriors in the game
today. ^
While Coach Henderson would not
say yesterday afternoon, it
pected that Philpot will be used on
the mound this afternoon. Philpot
has been working like a clock all
thia aeaaon and has shown up much
better than any ether member of the
Red and Black pitching staff. He
haa pitched four games to date and
has won ail of them and it is thought
that he will be able to (top the Bap
tists at Macon today.
There will be only one more game
to he played between the Mercer nine
and the Georgia team which will be
staged in Athens on Thursday and
the locals are anxious to win the
game in order that they will have a
lead of one game on Mercer of the
games played.
„The team is in great shape now
and each member of the squad is in
top form for the game with Mercer.
Thev have been at practice regularly
for the past week and are playing in
better shape than ever before.
Those who accompanied the team
on the trip to Macon were: Coach
Henderson, Manager Ashley, Spur-
loek, Westbrook, Philpot. Rawstn,
Fox, Cheaves, Davis, David, Cranford
and Captain Giilis.

LABOR SHORTAGE IS
ACUTE IN NORTHWEST
(By United Press.)
St. Paul, Minn, May 2.—With
farmers and agricultural experts co
operating to raise the largest crops
in history of the great northwest, a
labor crisis which may defeat the
carefully laid plans to increase pro
duction ia developing serious propor
tions.
So serious is the labor shortage
that plana to furlough hundreds of
men who will be attending summer
training camps at Fort Sneliing and
pour them into the harvest fields of
the northwest have been suggested.
Attention will be turned imme
diately to stemming the tide of im
migration into Canada. Five hun
dred farm hands arc crossing the
line daily, it ia estimated. The Ca
nadian government hat begun a sys
tematic campaign to attract Amori
can farmers and farm laborers to her
vast fields left deserted by the call to
arms. Homesteads are offered on
easy conditions. Men are given cer
tificates promising they trill not be
called on for military service. Every
promise of success and wealth is held
out to them.
Thia campaign it seriously object
ed to by the northwest. It ia held
inimical to the Interests of the
United States and discourteous to an
ally when the United Statea is facing
a labor crisis.

Her total expense account was 1 H cents a mile, including
