a mass of scales. His
scalp was red and inflamed

One of the most fascinating,
yet, at the same time, one of the most
awe-inspiring sights probably ever
witnessed in our city's history was
observed last night by the writer and
the other few who happened to be
out at 12:15 midnight.
Twas one of the most beautiful
nights that could be conjured up by
the imagination of Omar. Three*-
quarter-full moon; stars, glistening
like diamond pendants hung against
the deep blue dome of the heavens,
winked and twinkled with millions of
flashes of colored shafts of light. A
light summery breeze stirred the
trees to their whisperings—Oh, a
wonderfully perfect night for those
deep, soul-stirring sentimental
thoughts that come to the surface of
men when alone.
The combined light of the moon
and the street arc was as bright as
day on the corner of the postoffice
building. Suddenly there was a sound
like the swift flight of a hawk on its
swoop downward. The moonlight and
the arclight both faded away <
pletely and the whole earth seemed
lighted by a brilliant bluish white
light so bright as to hurt the eyes.
The writer saw the reflected light
on the streets and trees ahead of him
and shuddered. Turning quickly he
observed dropping toward Athens so
swiftly that it followed its own light
rays less than five miles—even as
fast as light travels. His thought,
first of all, was of the terrific com
pact between Athens and the flaming,
flying meteor when it reached earth.
But, almost in the tree tops of the
section of the city, its light dimmed
suddenly to a glowing red-like coal
and shattered to hundreds of small
bits and failed to reach the Classic
City except in sulphur-like fumes
which for a moment swept over the
city.
The night operator at* the Seaboard
reported that the light of the falling
star was so bright that for an
stant it severely strained his eyes,
even inside his office.
A \vonderful sight it was that sleep
ing Athenians failed to see.

praises of Dr. Pierce’s Favorite Pre

women. I was completely tired-out
the whole time, ambitionless, did not
care to do anything about the house,
and could not stand any excitement.
My unstrung nerves also made me lie
awake at night. The ’Favorite Pre
scription’ was the one thing needed to
give me good health.”
Mrs. W. T. Walton of 638 Twelfth
St, Augusta, Ga„ says: “Dr. Pierce’s
Favorite Prescription certainly is en
titled to all that he claims for it as
a tonic and builder and for troubles
peculiar to my sex. I was in a terri-
