QUARREL OF
MONTHS’ BREWING
’ . It Is said : that there has been
. bad feeling between Seagraves
and Smith for several*months.
The original - trouble grew out of
a charge against Smith for tho
theft of cigarettes from cars in
- the S. A. L. yards several months
Ago. At that time a warrant was
sworn out, for Smith in the Fed
eral court charging the theft of
certain gooda from the company,
, -mainly cigarettes, but at the pre
liminary hearing before • Judge
Cornett. Smith came clear but,
when the FedeYal grand jury con-
tho plant at midnight Friday night
and was whisked away in the dark
ness by men who occupied six au
tomobiles on which license plates
tither had been, covered or re
moved.
Countv officers questioned Teg-
-etson Friday night a few hours
before the reported kidnapping. It
Is' believed here they expected to
call the timkeepef as a »tate wit
ness at the public hearing,to be
held next Friday.
T. ,T. Burnett, former deputy
sheriff and an employe at the car
bon plant at Spyker who is in jail
here on a murder charge growing
out of the kidnapping and killing
of Watt Daniels and Thomas Rich
ards last August, according to the
authorities has denied he had any
part in the kidnapping and killing
and has declared he expected to
prove an alibi by employes at the
plant and records there

War Savings Stamps are redeem
able now by the Government ond
after January first no additional
interest will be paid on them but
they may be either cashed or trans
ferred to other Government securl
ties.
The Government prefers that
transfers be made and the original
money invested be left in securi
ties. However, they are readily
cashed and those holding them lo
cally may either cash them at the
post office or handle them through
the banks, where they will be tak
en as cash on deposits.
Post master Smith is prepared
to handle the cashing of- these se
curities and beginning Tuesday
he will handle them as fast as
possible. It is estimated that
1100.000.00 worth of these stamps
are held* in Athens.
