THE KIND
OF A DOLLAR
WANT-
WE I
r
What wo want, says an ex
change, is a dollar easy to get and
hard let go; a dollar that will pay
four dollars’ worth of debts and
then comes back by means of the
string attachment; a dollar that
snuggles easy in the sock of John
Smith, but withers like manna of
old in the sate of a railroad pres
ident; a dollar that will buy son e j
flour and meat while it buys much
whiskey and tobacco; a dollar!
above drawing interest, and yet
will double itself while the owner
sits in the shade and spits ai a
crack in the sidewalk; a dollar
that will circulate without depreci
ation; a dollar that will buy shoes
f r baby while t buys fun for a
man in places where he can’t take
his wife; a dollar that will surely
repair waste and sloth, appetite
and bad judgment: n dollar that
comes to the lap of indolenc
worms to tin* craw ot a lath
robin; a dod.sr that w;l! lem ve
t lie sentence passed upon Adam,
reverse the order of nature and
transform ilie nature of men.
This, according to our esteemed,
contemporary, is the kind of dol-1
lar we want.
