A NEW COALITION.
A SCHEME TO UNITE POPULISTS
AND DISAFFECTED DEMO
CRATS.
A Thirl Partyito Gives the Whole
Plan Away—To be Culminated at
the 16th Convention.
The political atmosphere in
Georgia is thick just now with all
sorts ef rumors uf a coalition be
tween tile populists, under the
leadership of Tom Watson, and
those disaffected democrats who
have kept, up a persistent tight
against the administration. Some
of the gossip even goes so far as to
say that the republican leaders in
the state will throw the strength
of their party into the new coali
tion, thereby uniting at once eve: y
Hass of opponents to what t,
known as the democracy in a league
to defeat its candidates in state
and national-elections.
These rumors may be said tr
have come to a head within th.
past week, and they are now the
political sensation of the hour
That their existence is based in a
tneasure upon fact cannot, be de
nied when the situation is calmly
and carefully surveyed. The visit
of Tom Watson to Atlanta during
the latter part of last week was
followed by a succession of most
significant happening-?. Jude-
James K. Hines announced his
conversion to the populist faith,
and was mentioned as a candi
Oate for g ivernor on that party-
ticket immediately after Watson’,
departure.
Yesterday when Watson’s week
ly paper came out it was enthus
iastic over the accession of Judge
Hines. It declared also that Mr.
Deter Francisco Smith would
Stump the fourth district in the in
terests of the populists, and that
things were in prime condition for
the overthrow of the democratic

SOME PLAIN FIGURES.
The Unite.- 1 ,. Life Insurance As so
eiaticn of New York, gives some
st iitLng figures in showing up tin
advantages to be derived from
A T a.'u.’ii premium insurance ov i
what is known as “Old Line’’ in
snrnncc. The United Life under
takes to show that, if a man de
vours old will invest in a building
an-.l io.ap. association the differ
ence on premiums between what
he would pay for a $10,000 policy
in their company, and a policy for
the same timounf in an old line
company, he would have at the
end of his expectancy, in addition
to his insurace the snug sum ol
$40,104,58. While these figures
are startling in the extreme, vet a
careful investigation shows them
to be correct. Now the question
arises; does a 'man display good,
sound business judgement by com
bining the feature of investment,
tcith protection in his life in
surance policy, when by asperating
• them, he can accomplish five times
j the result. We answer emphati
cally no, and we arc supported in
the stand we take by the leading
insurance actuaries of the country
who are all advocating natural
premium insurance—even the old
line companies are beginning to
acknowledge it to be the proper
form of insurance. The Provident
Savings Life las uranee Society of
New York, one of the best old line
companies, publishes in its print
ed literature, extracts from the of
ficial reports of the Hon, John K. 1
Turbos, insurance commissioner'
of Mass'.icheusetts, as follows: |
