It Is A Mystery. Sunday afternoon, the 21st Mr. S. G. Walls, living near Pinia walked out to his buggy shed and on looking in his buggy, was start led to find in it a newly born babe wrapped in a snow white sheet, with a slip of paper attached thereto, on which w.is written in a masculine hand, these words. “Keep the child until called for. You will find money on it.” Upon furthur investigation $10. was found in a sealed envelope. The infant was not dressed and not the least clue as to whose baby it is was discovered. The child appeared to be about forty- eight hours old. and was evidently placed in the buggy Saturday- night. Mr. Walls has taken the little girl into his home, and is for the present acting papa, pro-tern. The affair is a dark mystery, and has created no little excitement in the community. Will it be “called for,”?, is the question. The news of the sudden death of Mr. Thomas W. Brown at his home at Union Springs Alabama., last Tuesday night, came flashing over the wires to his daughter Mrs E. S. Lasseter, in this city- last Wednesday morning. Mr. Brown’s many friends throughout the county will be pained to learn of his sad death, as he was formally a citizen of our county, having spent the days of his youth and early manhood in Dooly. At the time of his death, he was one of the most- prominent citizens of Union Springs, and was proprietor of the popular Josephins hotel at that place. Mr. Brown enlisted in the Confederate army from this coun ty. He was a member of the Masonic order, and was buried with Masonic honors.
