The Ashburn Advance tells an

The latest yarn comes from
Kansas and runs this way: “A
man in that country raised last
year 1,000 bushels of popcorn, and
stored it in his barn. One day
some boys accidentally set fire to
the barn and while it was burning
the corn was all parched, and it
filled a ten acre field, surrounding
the barn, level with the fence. In
an adjoining field there was an old
mare that had seen a number of
Kansas winters, and thinking that
it was a snow storm coming laid
down and immediately froze to
death, while the thermometer stood
66 in the shade.”—Ex.

What About Guano?
The perplexing question with
our farmers just now is whether
they shall buy any guano at all
this year, and if so, how much and
what price they can afford to pay
for it. Of course this question
involves the amount of cotton that
is expected to be made.
The result is that very little fer
tilizers are being sold and the
dealers are very keen to sell while
the planters are indifferent about
placing their contracts just yet.
From inquirj- among a number
of planters we find that they esti
mate the cost of guano upon the
last crop to have been one-third
of the crop as figured by the num
ber of bales of cotton made.
Upon an estimate it took every
third bale of cotton sold in Dooly
county last year to pay for fertil
izers. Nor does this one-third in
clude the whole cost of the guano.
It had to be hauled home, distrib
uted and the crop cultivated and
marketed fro mtheone-third of the
land tilled, the same as upon the
other. Thus the third bale of cot
ton sold does not begin to repre
sent actual cost of the guano used
but instead the cost runs up to
nearer one-half the crop. This is
what makes the average planter
very cautious about buying this
year and many of them have de
clared that they will not use any
more guano—let the result be as
it may.
Letter from Nebraska.
On the 0th inst. Dr. C. T. Sto
vall wrote to a friend at Lincoln,
Neb, to know about the destitu
tion in that state. On the 23rd
inst. he received a reply, parts of
which we give below :
Lincoln, Neb., Jan. 19th, ’95.
DR. C. T. STOVALL,
Vienna, Ga.
Dear Doctor : Yours of the 9th
just received and I will give you,
as correctly as lean, the true con
dition of Nebrasba.
People of the Western part of
Nebraska, have made many ap
peals for help, which have been
promptly responded to by the peo
ple of the Eastern part of this
state, and from other states.
Blain and Sherman counties,
which are in the Western part of
the state have suffered the worst.
When I received your card I went
to see the State Relief Committee.
Thej' said they had been able to
fill all calls for help and had re
ceived’ aid from many states.
1 noticed in the papers yester
day that|a train of corn had been
shipped from Atlanta, Ga. We
feel very grateful to Georgia, and
the South. They have always re
sponded very liberally.
Very truly yours,

Employment, As Well as
Educates.
It is a fact that the harder the
times, the greater the necessity
for young men and women to have
a business education if the3 T would
secure, ©r retain, good positions.
This paper knows of no institution
an3 T where offering advantages for
so thoroughly practical a training
at such small expense as the Geor
gia Business College of Macon,
Ga. Indeed it will surprise any
one, who, will write for particulars,
to find how small the expenses of
a course is; for there a business
education is placed in the reach
of the poorest person in the land;
and further still, all graduates are
helped to good positions without
any charge, whatever.
The facts about the magnitude
and methods of this college are a
revelation to any one, and readily
account for its having distanced
all competitors.

HEART DISEASE.
Fluttering, No Appetite, Could
not Sleep, Wind on Stomach.
“For a long time I had a terrible
pain at my heart, which fluttered al
most incessantly. I had no appetite
and could not sleep. I would be
compelled to sit up in bed and belch
gas from my stomach until I thought
every minute would be my last.
There was a feeling of oppression
about my heart, and I was afraid to’

induced me to try

I now have a splendid appetite and
