"Como unto me all ye • * ”
Gome, weary one, and lean thy head
Upon a Saviour’B breast,
know thy brokenheartedness
And long to give the rest.
Upon my bosom thou shalt feel
No throb of earthly grief;
Within my arms thy anguished soul
Shalt find a sweet relief.
Come, tired child, thy Saviour pleads
With outstretohed hands to thee;
Already doth his loving eye
Thy both’ring footsteps see.
The path is rugged, and the stones
Ou
ut sore thy tender feet,
My, love can soften them to feel
Like lillies fair and sweet.
The IhornB that pieroe thy bleeding flesh
Have won a orown for thee.
The cup thou drinkest I did drink
In dark Gethsemane.
The garments torn and stained with dust
Are.grevious in my sight,
I freely offer the instead,
A robe of snowy white.
The shadows thick around the fall
And blacken into night.
One ray yet shoots athwart the gloom,
'Tis mercy’s beacon light.
Then come, my child, thy fondest hopes
' That withered in thiB world,
Shall in the Paridise of God
Be like the 'flow’rs unfurled.

JEANNIE STOAALL NORRIS.
At last we have received a piece
of good poetry, and it is given space
with pleasure.. Some who have been
contributing rhymes, to this office
may feel a bit blue at seeing this
poem in print after not seeing their
own. Set this to the tune of Hark
From the Tomb, and see how it fits;
then set some of your own produc
tions to any tune under the sun and
see how they do not fit. We ap
preciate lineB that measure like these
but we have our fill of cheap poetry.
Bud Downing Surrendered.

the house of his father-in law, Jack
Ennis. Downing is too sick to be

Farmers Versus Cordele.
Farmers in the neighborhood of
Cordele are displeased at the Cor
dele stock law to the extent that
they are circulating agreements not
to carry any cotton to Cordele or
spend any money there be'eause of
the ill treatment.they have received
at the hands of the city council in
impounding their hogs, selling them
and appropriating the fund to the
town. .They do not deem it quite
proper for a town to sit down
among them and discriminate
against them.

• Primitive Preacher Dead.
Elder Jas. H. Whittle was killed
by a falling tree Saturday evening
on his farm directly on the line of
Dooly and Wilcox counties. He
and his wife were in the field to
gether, either picking cotton, or
walking over the farm when a fall
ing tree struck him and fractured
his skull, from which he died with
in a few hours.
Elder Whittle had spent his
three score years and ten, and has
preached in nearly all of the
churches of this association. We
are without the particulars of his
death or the biography of his life,
but would like to get both for
•publication.
