The*winter was hard on honey bees, hut they began swarming tbe first week iu April: The chicken at T R Smith's that had no eyes was accidentally killed by one of the children. The three candidates foi surveyor, Smith, Barker aud Corey, were in Unadilla Saturday at the same time. Miss Louise Richards returned to Talbotton Sunday from a vory pleasant visit to Mrs O M Heard in Vienna. Messers. Isaiah Williams, J R Homo and J H Woodward are preparing the registration list for t he primary. The hope that beer would not he used in this campaign has gone to the four winds. A keg was tapped near Cordele Saturday, and that’s not all. Mr W W Mosley, of Macon, spent Sunday with his brother, T O Mosley, of the Mosley Mercantile company. Little Tom Mosley, Jr., came also to see his unole. J. B. Folds dropped in to see us recently to tell us about the singings this year- He has been at the head of the South Georgia Musical convention fully 20 years. It is hinted that the Methodist people want a campground in Houston county, and that the G. S. & F. wants one on its line of road. The two may get together and establish one at Beech Haven. Candidate Crum has not only plowed in nnw ground, gone to mill on a mule and done similar things claimed by candidates, but he hived a swarm of bees for a good lady Monday and had good success with them They are on tho home stretoh— the candidates. A gun olub has been organized here with tho shooting ulaco at the fair ground. Tbe Mosley Mercantile house is dosed today for the death of a brother, S R Mosley, in Macon. The little son of Mr. D M Woodward, ot Tampa, came with his uncle Charlie and returned with him. Candidate L Nobles desires it stated that he is not furnishing liquor for the campaign, aud those who are writing to him for it could put their stamp money to a better use. He says if it takes whisky and beer to get the office of sheriff he will not have if Dooly has no straighter men than L Nobles. Dooly County has sat with her hands in her lap a loDg time regarding fairs and exhibitions at fairs. She could well have a fair of her own next, fall-without putting on extra paint, and powder, and conld then take her display to the state fair aud show off to good advantage there. Only the interest is lacking, and a leader to iudnee the farmers to make the dssplay. There is no 1 ac.k of the product; we only need to get it together and show it off to advantage. Prof. L E Brown, for five years superntendent of tha Houston High School at Arahi, has resigned that position and has resolved to open a Girls Industrial school somewhere in this part of the state. He met the Vienna board of trade at the courthouse Monday morning to reoeive a proposition from this city. Later he was in conference with the Cordele people. He expeots to establish the college somewhere, and will select the best place, taking all things iuto consideration.
