And in laith and tellimony whereof, I, the said notary, have hereunto 1c t. my hand and affix ed my seal cf office, at Gufta via, St. Bartholomew aforefaid, the day and year firft aforefaid. P. OLLENGREN, Notary Public. Memorandum of quefions and an fevers by the lieutenant and cap tain cf the Lc Dejiree frigate, which the wafer of the armed fl‘p Nancy, omitted in the pro tefl: — When the said officer came on boaro, he demanded my pa pers—then ordered my crew to be muffered. T hey produced their prore&ions—the laid offi cer tore teem ...2 pieces, and laid they could get another for half a dodar in America, and get into the boat. After the firft inffult of firing into the ship had cealed, they lent their boat on board with the fame officer, took me with ttie money on board to pay my laiicrs. The firft compliment given me after entering the cabin, by captain Whitby, was, “ You damned old rafeah I wilh I had killed. \ sj li* 4 * An Ever, Thank you. . Fie (hen called my sailors, by way of derision, and alkcd them “ what have ycu received from 4 mailer ?” Some answered more and fome of them less. I fup *pofe ycu received a month’s ad vance on leaving Charleston ? <J Yes, fir. The officer on board would not give me time to look and fee wha: monies I had ad vanced them in Port-au- Prince. After the money was count ed on the table, his ex predion was, by God I wilh all this was my prize money. My answer was, I believe you. What da you mean by tha: ? I mean that my sailors will get very little of it. His boarding and firing in to the Nancy, was done under French colours. The lirft bag of dollars not being fufficieilt, I was sent on board for more, then they bro’c my second mate on board for to retain him, but on examination found him not to be in good or der and well conditioned, they returned him onboard the Nan cy. After ail rny sailors ‘were paid off, Whitby demanded of them if they would enter ! They answered no. His answer was, he’d warrant they would to-morrow, ar.fFff vou do not* 4 carry yourselves damn’d upright I will have you taken to the gun ands! gged. It is well known by all American captains, that are boarded by this brutish ty rant, that they receive treat ment similar to this. It is a pleating event that he is appoint ed td\he command of a 74 gun lhip, as he will be more out of the way of ihfulting neutrals. Giving a deferipdon of this Whi’.by, will not be a mils, as those that condjudl themselves in this manner, generally keep their names and the names of their ships a secret, that an A merican may not know them, to give any information to the world of their conduct. This fa:d Whitby may be known by his wearing a black patch over his right eye, having loft the fight of it, and I tnink it a misfortune the other is not in the fame filiation, as then he could not so well inffult neutrals. WM. BREWSTER. An ingenious method of propaga ting Cucumbers, for fevered crops at fuccefion, without /ow ing them. As soon as there appear seve ral flower-beds on a plant, bend the second or third joint or branch below the blossom, fallen it firm ly in the ground, and cut off* the capillary point cf the plant.— the vegetable speedily takes root when you separate it from the parent llaik. Proceed thus with the moft vigorous plants; and a-, each root has to lupport only a tew fruits with nourdhment, you both lave labor and procure a constant fucceflion of cucum bers for a number of months, irom cr.e fort, which is not f> liable to degenerate as if they were railed from a variety of • feeds.
