With pleasure we announce to die public a propofitic nos James Tacterfon ofßilde hamp ton, to establish a cotton and wool manufactory, on the east end of Long Island, in this flats?, on an ex ten five f:ale. The machinery is now making in New Jersey, and will confab of twelve looms with double boxes (together with ail other necefia ry apparatus) which will weave ail kinds of broadcloth , carpets, coverlids , and vejlpatterns. Some gentlemen from Eaftport and the cuflom house officers who had gone down for the purpose of taking the pa pers on board the fchconer* went a long fide, were at firfl forbidden to come on board; whlift the British midihipman, (pointing to a particular man) ordered him on board; he re fiifmg they lashed him and ano ther man round the neck and dragged them on board the b: :g, at length the custom house officer was luffered to come on board, after relating the circum stances, demanded a reason for the schooner’s detention, and in formed them they were under the American flag and had the ve fiefs register and people’s prcteClions ; the lieutenant dam ned their Hag, re gutter and pro teClions, and ordered all of them except two men they had lashed on board the boat. * The cap tain of the lchooner requefling to lee the custom house officer received a violent blow from one of the British. Through the intercefiion of the gentlemen of Eaftport and Sr. Andrews the two men were after living been in y rifim three days ■, but the vessel is dill de tained at St. George. An arrival at Bolton, which spoke the United States guu boat, No. 8, was the bearer of the following letter, from the commander. <c Gun Boat , No. 8 at Sea, Ist. 37 N. long. 16, 20, IV. May 27, 1805. ts SIR, The day I failed from Boston, (4th May) we had strong S. W. wmds. In eroding the Gulph Stream, the wind blew from N. N. W. we did not however, fhipmuch water. On the 13th and 14th instant, we experienced a very heavy gale of wind from N. W. to N. N. W. towards the close of which we had a suc cession of as many squalls as I have experienced formany years. Several times we bore up and feudded before the storm ; the Boat behaved well, and I pro nounce her perfectly fitfe to cross the Atlantic. c< While feudding in the height of the gale, a sea itruck and broached us to, owing to the carelessness of the man at the helm—Our storm square fail was split, and blown to atoms, and our toplaii yard, which was lashed on deck, was by the force of the sea, broken into three pieces ; we then set the storm fore fail and made very good weather. Melancholy accident. —ln the afternoon of the 17th ulc. four persons were killed by lightening on board a small vessel in Occo quan creek, near the mills—one of them belonging to this town, Mr, Isaac Janncy ; two others re fide and at and near the mills, Mr. Robert Lindsay and Beckmith Keefer ; the fourth was a black man.—We understand, just as the vtffel was getting under way, they stepped on board to fail about two miles, for pleasure, and hid not been there more than five minutes before they met their untimely end.
