The Cleveland Progress. Kntcn:d at the Post-office at Cleveland ns Second-clous Mail Matin**, Jan. 29* ’92. Official Organ of White county W. B. WOODWARD, Editor and Prop’?, Cleveland, Ga., April 22, 1892 MAIL TRANSMISSION. POL T TIC ALL Y SPEAKING. A I'(MV I’riefs From a White County Democrat. Mr. T. L. Smith, wlmse homo is about, four mil oh from the; vil lage mi the Cleveland—darken ville roud, is quite eugcr to have ii post-office establish! d some where in tlmt locality. The peo ple are entirely excluded from mail transmission throughout that part of the county, 'mid it is a matter that should lie attended to at once. Mr. Smith is one of White’.- host citizens, and knows the val no of such a project as he has re quested us to mention. People having to go fiyo, six or eight miles to receive their mail, surely should have a, post-office within at. least half the distance above alluded to. A post-office was once at Mr. Smith’s place, and was ably man aged by him during its existence. After the plant was operated for several months here, it was re moved to Moore & lire., about n mile east of where it was original ly situated, hut this firm having removed their stock of goods to llluirsvillc, the office was aban doned, leaving the people desti tute of mail facilities. Thin section, where a pout-of fice is so exigent, is in no way sparsely settled, and it is a plain fact that the citizens ought to he on an even basis with other sec tions of the county, in the way of mail facilities to say the least of it. Yes, wo must not bo too obliv ions and say nothing of the addi tional mail line on the Clovclnud and lluyesvillo route to Nucoo- choe? This question was once placed before our readers, hut it seems that it has greatly withered, although not complete ly. What has the postmaster at Cleveland done ns regards this, ill at ter V lias he consulted “Un- elo” Sum and stated to him how much this piece of work, is need ed? If so, wo would like to hear from him, in order that we can give our Nacooohoe friends en lightenment. It is folly for democrats to lie turning their guns on each other. When the third party men mo re ferring to democrats ns the “ene my,” there is a great ei pnign. The I mi lid's, president and all are to lie elected during the grout and exciting campaign in eigh teen and ninety two, and the battle will be the hottest one that has been before the people for a number of years; and, from what I observe in the political papers my conscience permit mo to put these words down with truth: drover Cleveland is the choice of the people, and I cun frankly say lie will gain the victory. I have traveled the county over urmg the past few weeks, and i find that, at least sixty per cent of the people are for Cleveland for president. Cleveland was once our democratic presidential •opi'cscnttitive and there are ninny ndicutionsof his serving usugnin. A cross mark opposite your name on The PuoaitEss means t hat wo want your subscription. Wo are sending the paper to many who promised to pay some time ago, hut who have failed to do so. Mr. J. II. Alley announces to day his mime ns a candidate for the senate, to represent Dawson, Lumpkin and White counties, subject to the action.of primaries. Mr. Alley is favorably ^spoken of liy many of our citizens mid chances are entertained that lie will awaken his opponents. The farmers are not to be de ceived by every agitator who wants an office, and the would-be leaders who have deserted the republican party ill the north west to organize a party hi Geor gia will never have a corporal's guard of followers in this state.— Atlanta Constitution. eat deal There seems to be a of complaint about the people not getting their mail at Nacoochcc. Somo claim that their mail is handed out to just anybody for delivery, while others say that there ure too many assistants— too many hands dabbling into the mails. It is time for all er rors in mail circles to bo corrected. During the warn number of bombs mid other ammunition was thrown into Buffalo bayou, near Houston, Tex., to avoid capture. A day or two ago a boy named Charley Harris got one of the bombs out of the bayou, took it homo and proceeded to experi ment upon it with an uxo. He opened it. One of his feet were blown off, he lias a slug in his head and another in his groin. The stable in which lie experi mented was blown to atoms. If all the good citizens of White county were, convoked in one mass it would seem ns though we could get u man for senatorial honors without the least bit of trouble, but it iH not that, way. They are all in some way or other buck ward us to whether they want to enter the field for the position. I want to hear of some one saying that he means to make the race, hut he must ho a leal democrat if he aurries the vote of White. Who will the people elect for our next, legislator? This is a question propounded to me fro- juontly, but it stumps me to sug gest, who would bo the right man, (is the county contains many who could loproBcnt us in a good, and almost inexplicable way. We prefer a man who will bo of some interest to the county. He must vote to have the Haddock bill— has passed the Senate and now be fore the House—knocked into at oms; also the “Equilization” law, past by the last General Assem bly. SHOAL CREEK OBSERVER. Ah it iH written. I have read much and heard more about the coming presiden tial election. There is much at stake at present, not as I think our country is in such a had con dition, but. as I am confident of the fact that wo can place it in better cicumstiuices; and, there fore, I see in the great name of the Alliance that the wrongs will lie righted. As a clcinotgit I think that Grover Cleyeiafflr or David Ilill would either give us a good administration, and I am sure almost that one or the other of these noble men will he elect ed, that is if purtyism or political faction does not break through the lines and defeat them. It is true our government is tattering almost fiom center to circumfer ence, but while all this is going oil I believe all will come out right. I believe that after the great struggle is over the glories of our once noble government will again shine. Again it is true that at present that dark clouds may ho hanging gloomy oyer our Republic and the sea roaring and men’s hearts failing. I believe there is light behind the clouds. I mu aware that our best statesmen and bra vest soldiers have been looking out upon the raging fury of the throne, with a faltering step and fainting heart. Our laboring classes have been and are now oppressed. I believe their cries have ussendud unto the throne of God, and l believe he is working out our relief through the hands of the great Farmers’ Alliance. 1 do not be lieve in a third party; I do not desire to see so many political di visions in our beloved country, for wo know a house divided against itself cannot stand. If this bo true I may say that a government divided against itself must fall. Hut yet I say if we cannot get a redress from our dis tress without a third party, let it come. All I can do for it 1 will. Fellow democrats stand by your rights; stand by your land and homes. Shoal Cheek Ohseuveh. It is just us easy to put tlu* right mail in office as it is to put one in who can do himself no good nor anybody else; but the question is, will the people do it. It, has always been my theme to vote for the man whom I thought would ably and faithfully stand by the principles of the old, loy al and noble party. You all know what party 1 mean. I hoard a man remark tho oth er day that Commissioner Kytlo would sweep the thing clean, should ho become ;i candidate for the senate. Such men as the Commissioner can’t bo found ev ery day, and, in my candid opin ion, he is one of the best men we eaii find, bill I inn at a loss to know whether or not lie is in pi - sition to make the race.
