OBITUARY.
By request 1 attempt to give
some of the admirable characteris
tics of Mrs. Frances E. Brawn-
low, wife of Jeremiah Urownlow.
She departed this life on the list
day of March, 18i>2. She was the
daughter of old “Uncle” 'W illiam
McKinney, who was a good citi
zen of White county, and a mod
el of truth, honesty and industry.
She was born in AV hite county
in the year 1851, and lived a good,
kind, and obedient daughter,
and at the age of 1,1 years she
professed a hope in Christ and
joined the. Baptist church, and
she remained in good standing
until she married, and soon after
her marriage she being devoted
to her husband—became desir
ous of joining the Methodist
church, that she and her husband
might be one, and there lived a
good worthy member until our
heavenly Father saw proper to
take her to that eternal home—
there to dwell among the sancti
fied in sanctification, leaving a
devoted husband and ton lonely
and lovely children, to make
their way through this unfriendly
world, there awaiting the arrival
of those left behind, as God, the
father, sees proper to pass
them through the valley
of Jourdan. She was a dutiful
wife and loving mother and one
that never tired in looking after
Services at the Baptist church,
with Rev. J. J. Kimsey pastor,
were as usual—good and profit
able, Sunday last.
The two amiable little daugh
ters, Annie and Hattie, of Mr. ('.
AV. Oakes, who resides near Na-
coochoe Willey, are at the Hen
derson on a few days visit.
Money has been obtained for
the purchase of a nice organ for
the Methodist church at this
place. The committee deserves
much credit for their earnest and
successful work in behalf of the
church.
Sheriff Brown left yesterday
morning with Fletcher Cantrell
ana A Lin Coffey, both colored,
for tin 1 chaingang, neither of
them lining able to pay the lines
imposed on then: at the spring
term of White Superior court.
Fines and sentences imposed
upon the (riminals at While su
perior court will be seen in anoth
er column. The criminal docket
was remarkably clean this term,
liut the fines and sentences make
up for the deficiency.
The second annual Baptist Sun
day school convention will be
heldat this place the third Sun
day iti May. The occasion prom
ises to be one of regalement to all
attendants.
Mossy Creek and Concord are
to play a match game of baseball
to-morrow, the latter having fur
nished the challenge. Mossy
Creek has some good players, and
The Phoguess takes sides with
them.
John and AVill McGhee, sonsol
Mr. S. II. McGhee, have return
ed from a flying trip to Colorado
and other prominent places in the
west. The hoys contemplated
locating in that section, but they
could find no better country than
the one they left—Georgia.

A big day in Cleveland to-mor
row. The county alliance meets
in the court house, while the
temporary president, Col. J. J.
Kimsey of the demoratic execu
tive committee, has culled a mass
meeting to he held at the same
place. A large crowd of the peo
ple of AVhitc county is expected
to he present on this important
occasion.
Jim Nix and Mark Bell, while
oil a recent trip to Atlanta, went
down to the State House to see
who they could find. Just as
they reached that place, Murk
raised his hat to Ben Hill’s monu-
Clcveland s the interests of her husband and
little, ones. She was a good kind
neighbor and loved by all her sur
roundings and acquaintances and
will be much missed by them.
Her vacant seat will be seen in
the surrounding churches, and
around the fireside many days
hence. That bereaved, lonely
and heart-broken husband will be
made to mourn oyer her vacant
seat amidst the little motherless
children. No one can tell the
sorrow of his heart, but one that
has traveled through the same
bereaved channel of desolation
and sorrow. We read the divine
word of God, declaring that all
things worketh together for good
to them that love God. But that
heart-broken husband ,is unable
to see that the vacant seat around
the family altar is for his good.
Vet, there may bo a day hence
that, he can see it to be foi good.
We know that whatever cannot
lie cured must bo endured, and
by experience I am authorised to
say that nothing but time can
heal the alllicted heart. But
when that troubled heart takes a
retrospective view of the foot
steps of that departed companion,
it gives joy and comfort to Ids
soul, seeing that she preached her
own funeral by her own proper
walks of life. Her devotion to
her husband, to her children, to
her kindred and to her neighbors
will be long remembered by those
who have witnessed her good
qualities and devotion of this life,
who are left behind to mourn
over her departure. Now in
conclusion all we can say to the
troubled husband and children is
to try to follow the dutiful foot
steps of that wife and mother
that once dwelt among you in
your happy little cottage, hut
now standing on the banks of
sweet deliverance. No doubt you
feel that you know the prayers of
everybody, but when you have
done your duties, that is all you
can do, and that is what gives us
peace, joy and comfort in this
world; and that is what will free
you from condemnation before
the high .Judge of the heavenly
Kingdom, hence giving you joy,
peace and comfort throughout
eternity and understanding. As
old King David did; that she
cannot conic hack to you hut you
can go to her, there to dwell in
the realms of perfect Miss—let us
not wee]) for those that are better
off than we.
A. AV. Smith.

GUIDE ME HOME TO HEAVEN.
My Parents died when 1 was young
And left me here atom*,
Without a guardian or a friend
Togui o me home to heaven.
My friends are gone and 1 am alone
In this dark vale of tears—
We are parted here a little while,
But soon we’ll meet in heaven.
An orphan here I lonely live
In tl»is poor world of sin,
But Jesus is my guardian friend
To guide me home to heaven.
Though tribulations deep and broad
1 am destined here to go
O’er mountains high and waters deep,
1 am traveling homo to heaven.
Farewell, farewell, I am going home
To meet my parents there,
Ten thousand years may roll away
And we’ll part no more in heaven.
Home to heaven 1 soon shall go
To sing with angels there,
This holy and this happy thought
Still bears me homo to heaven.
The clouds disperse the light appears,
My sins are all forgiven,
Roll on ye suns tly swift ye years,
And bring me home to heaven.
