It may be made up in almost any material. You finish the skirt in front with bands of embroidery. There is also an embroid ered plastron and collar. The plastron is framed with fold ed braces and the belt is also mads in the same style While simplicity should always be the key note in fashions for chil dren, for nothin* looks more ridicu- * fagTtv cmt.n's mutes. Ions than an over dressed child, yet if tastefully applied and the tones be kept quiet and subdued, a ocr. h RTAMPRl. rort.Asn, tain amount of garniture is always to be oemmended. For summer costumes, how ever, all appoaratice of heaviness, all over weight affects should be carefully avoided. Above all things should a child's .ostumes be In strictest harmony with tts coloring. Soft tints should be chosen, snob as melt Into the pink and white of the complexion, matoh the soft golden of the hair or the sky blue of the eyes. Nothing (Mil lie prettiei than a slumped foulard for a young person, end nothing more appropriate Tnc sttmmo.t wear. The illustration pictures httch a gown, 't to skill has three ruffles ttisda of litas stripes. Th charming little giilpuro llgrro is outlined with ribbons set oft with it double bow, as indicated. It is exactly the same si tlie hack. There is also a ribbon halt, tlie sleeves carrying out the same scheme of garniture. The Kton jacket has developed intobneof the rages of the moment, hut. very few of these garments are Kton except in name. The true Kton has small close sleeves, and khonld invariably be worn with the mothera should he careful not to make choice of large flower* for garniture, eo that the child may not seem to he wearing her big aistere hat In the illustration it given a very good example of a becoming bat for a little mis*—a yellow straw ornamented with a garland of daisies and bows of straw- colnrod ribbon. Certain flowers have a young look about them when full blown, and they aro the ones to make choice of for children's hat*. All wild flowers go Well with youthful faces and are particularly becoming for such as have the wild wool- land air about them. No one would think of getting orchids or peonies or tuli|>s or popples or tiger-lilies on a child's hat. Would not daisies or heather or wijd rosea or forget- me-nots or pansios or apple-blossoms bo moro appropriate.' A very becoming bit of headgear for some children is the wide brimmed fancy straw with a Sicilian crown, which is of silk or woolen stuff, striped something like a liberty cap and has a silk tassel that falls gracefully over the brim. I.ong skirts of ths Kate Greenaway styl* should betmed with great discretion even in cold w eather Such gowns ere really not fitted for walking purposes st all, and many s cold gets its first lex* ns in stiff slid awkward carriage by being rolled up in these so called picturesque costumes. Kvery hi Id in good health has far more vitality than lie nr sin- lias any use for. and if must lie worked off in swift motions and semi- lioisteriona play, the limbs, particularly, br ing left free and untrammeled. Kliort t-kirls, therefore, should tie the rule as Ihe warm weather comes on, and gowns should tie straight and lootte mid not loaded down with heavy sashes. Wry pretty effects are attained hv trimming Hie akirl nnd cliffs with hands of velvet ribbon of a darker shade than tlio dreaa, Hie ribbon also being used to stii ill Into the yoke You will find a charmingly picturesque little (ro'-u reprn tented in the illustration, it may be made PEOPLE'S PARTY PLATFORM. ppaptsFar for i tin r nr apn a elssvsless vest, for if you make i's sleeves Urjre enough to ro over an e-dinary gown, you have no longer an Kton coat. The true Kton has tailor made turn-down collar and lapels. Nor should it ever be made use of as a wrap for muffling up purposes This is ridiculous The correct summer girl never makes such a mistake Her Eton coat is merely a separate bodice which she wears over different vests and matches her skirts, while the vests run in different materials The coat must fit the figure snugly To do this the vests should have long openings for the straps to pass through In the illustration is a charming toilet for • Katurdav night hop. whicn msy be made up in any filmy, gaury material the cut out being trimmed with lace, as shown The ribbon corselet ends at the side seams At the hack there is a Watteau bow with long ends if made up in pale blue a pa? sementerie band of silver crosses the bust and meet* at the hack under the bow The Ir.ced £\viss belt is a very pretty novelty in leather of various colors At the back and front, the two pointed edges are laced with a silk cord On each side there is a buckle This belt goes with silk vests and blouse*, so much worn at summer resort*. The Wiuf cord «hould b* tied at the ho»tom in the uaj- of headgear for little heads child’s gowk. up in various materials, but more appropri ately in crepon, silk or printed goods The blouse and tight sleeves should be of plain goods. The particular charm of the costume lies in the original use made of a fichu ef fect. You get here a back view of it, show ing how it discloses a round yoke. In front the two ends cross and termina • on the shoulders, where the ends hook. There is a straight ruehed collar. The upper sleeves are mndo very full and are gathered on the tight sleeve at the elbow. NEWSY "GLEANINGS. Th* plague is raging in Persia. , Italy has twenty-two crematories.
