Judge Wellborn imposed a fine of *100, and *50, on 1 ho two Van diver boys, found guilty of as sault and battery. Hiram Cannon, one of the members of tho live firm of Can non Bros., of N’aeooehee, paid ns a pleasant call Monday. Rye and wheat sowing are now in order. Sow rye! It is one of the most profitable crops you can grow. Jim Nix got his hand badly hurt bv getting it tangled up with a galloping fence and a briar patch, while trying to arrest Jim Jackson last week. The case of Jno. Chambers, elutrged with assault and attempt to murder, resulted in a mistrial, the jury being unable to agree after sitting up all night on the ease. Ascertain party that had a ro speetuhlo following here, say the Democrats bought out their boys on election day. Compliment ary to" their own rank and file, are they not? Nature’s fairy art ists have boon busily at work with brush and palette, for the past two weeks, and they have laid such lovely tints in yellow and purple and crimson and gold on each leaf, that our mountain and hillside aro Titan tie pictures, wrought in harmonizing colors, beyond the power of mortal to imitate. Northen’s majoiity in the Ninth District was about 4600. This is tho majority that Carter Tate can safely count for himself, although we believe that Pickett will run so far behind his ticket, that Tate’s majority may reach 0000* White only gave a Democratic majority of !>2, yet we fully ex pect to give Carter Tate a major ity of 160. Our ranks are being strengthened every day by the best brains and influence of tho People’s party, who have seen their mistake, and have the man hood to acknowledge it, and come back to our support. Personal and Otherwise. Notwithstanding an effort on the part of some now defeated Third party < undulates, to boy cott us, our circulation has stead ily increased until we find that WANTED. We promised you a newsy, bright, and abovo all, a truth ful and clean paper; and we have heard no one gainsay ns, so far. We are thankful for the sup port our friends have given us, so readily, and appreciate the con sideration with which many fair minded men, none the less our friends, hut difi’ering widely po litically, have uniformly treated ns. Wo labor zealously for a cause wo. think right, and as true Dem ocrats, fight, to thy hitter end all opposition. It pains us that wo mp widely dill’er as to the means and way to bring about relief fot those needing it; here, we aro one peo ple, one community, and every man's interests, is the same. If one class prospers all prosper; if one is oppressed, it. oppresses all. The line that divides us is almost an illusion; and the ciiimc of any division can he truly laid to delusion. We ask you to wake up, shake off this delusion laid upon you by unprincipled place-hunters of the Peek, Wea ver and Watson type, and come hack into the party you have al ways stood with. Wo promise you the very things for which you loudly clam or, and our strength is such just now, that there is a bright possi bility of a fulfillment of every one of them. Judge C. J. Tho steady hand with which ho holds the scales of justice, the. impartiality with which ho treats all eases brought before him, his unswerving ad herence to tho right, marks him as n master-piece from the Crea tor's hand. A man. The Atlanta Journal, among its bright paragraphs, has the following: Editor Irwin is out of a job. England needs a poet laureate. Why shouldn’t, these two things he put together? The crowd was about equally divided when Tate began speak ing, hut when he had finished, it seemed, from all appearances, tlmt Tate bad captured the great er part of the crowd.
