THROUGHOUT -THE SOUTH
SlatiiH of Business (or the Post Week
Reported by Dun & Co,
R. G. Dun & Co.’s weekly review of
trade snys: The volume of trade is well
maintained and manufacturers nto better
employrd with some ir.crenso in demand,
where increase was most needed, nnd in
dications are that tho people do not be
gin to think of reducing purchases. The
treasury has been regaining gold, in spite
of exports of (uOO.OUO this week nnd
some exports expected, but in view of
tho cnotmous excess of imports since
January 1st, it is scarcely reasonable to
hope that further outgoes of gold are to
bo avoided. The stringency in the monoy
market nt New York nnd other points is
largely duo to slow collections, which ap
pear to result rather from severe weather
thnn from any other form of commercial
soundness.
At Philadelphia money is closo with
dull collections. Iron is in better de
mand nnd wool very firm. At Pittsburg
steel is in belter tlrmand anti nu advnnco
in glass U talked of. The shoo trade at
Cincinnati exceeds Instyeat’s 20 per cent
aud a better dry goods trade is seen at
Cleveland; general trade is good, with
large demand for structiiral iron, but col
lections aro slow. Trade at Detroit
about (tpials last year’s, and at Indianap
olis dry goods are active and manufac
turer’s busy. General trade at Chicago
Is good and o.Mictions fair except nt
some western points, but money is in
strong demand ami partly b(cause of bad
roads. Receipts of many products de
clined—wool, corn, nt (1 dressed beef 0
per cent, hogs 52, cheese 54, cattle 24,
barley and seeds 20 and oats 14 per cent.
Receipts of wheat are 125 per cent larger
than Inst year; rye 00; sheep 80 and
hides 15 per cent. We.titer retards trade
nt Milwaukee ami St. Paul. At St. Louis
money is unchanged with a legitimate
demand. Business is good nt Kansan
City nnd nt Omaha trade is good. St.
Joo rcportB a heavy trade. Business nt
Denver is fair and at Salt Lake it is im
proving.
At most southern points improvement
is seen, especially at Nashville and Knox-
uille, though money is somewhat close,
but at Louisville the outlook is fnv ruble.
At Atlanta collections are slow, at Mobile
exports of coal and lumber increase and
money is in a light demand, but nt New
Orleans tradu is (lull with sugar in good
demand und large exports of wheat re
stricted by the lack of ocean tonnage.
Though other iron is leeu fl m nt Phila
delphia with more pressure to sell, Besse
mer li strong, nnd at most markets the
demand for manufactured products of
iron nnd steel seems to increase. Copper
is slow nt 11 3-4 for lake, but tin it ad
vanced to 21 by speculation, while sales
of lend has been large at 305.
Tito wistern movement of iivo stock
about equals Inst ycur's. Tho advance
in carpets continues aud trndo in knit
goods (s larger.
Speculation in cotton fluctuates nb-
Htirdly witli tumors nbout thu English
strike, hut thu price is unchanged,
though stocks in sight cxcerd the proba
ble demand for thu year. Who it lias de
clined 1J with sales of 10,000,000 buslt-
Inislieis at Now York, though western
rccolpts in four days nto over 1,700,000
bushels and exports aro only 008,000.
Pork and hogs ore slightly ltiglio'-,
though lard is lower. Foreign trade
continues to show a largo adverse bal
ance. Purchases in foreign account do
not ns yet indicate reviving quiliticsin
American securities.
The business failures occurring through
out thu country during the last Seven
days number 243 as compnrcd with 230
last week. For tho corresponding week
of last year the figures were 231.

Let us observe a law common to all
trees. First, neither the rtems nor
boughs of ihe'maple, elm or oak taper ex
cept at the point where thoy fork. When
ever a stem rends forth a branch nnd a
branch sends off a smaller bough, ttld of
stem, they remain the same in diamotcr,
nnd tho original st m will increase
rather than dimln'sh until itt next branch
starts. No hough, branch or stem ever
narrows near its extremity except whero
it parts with a portion of its substance
by sending off another branch or stem.
All trees are alike ia this rerp ct, and if
all the boughs, branches, stems, buds
nnd blossoms wire combined nn I united
without loss of apace, they would form n
round log the same in size and diameter
ns tho trunk from which they spring.
This is one of nature’s imperative Inws
nnd t aver fails to prove true.—Boston

fs?oyaI Baking Powder
Is Absolutely Pure
W HILE there are so many alum baking pow
ders in the market, the use of which all
physicians decide render the food unwholesome
and liable to produce dyspepsia and other
ailments, housekeepers should exercise the ut
most care to prevent any powder but the Royal
from being brought into their kitchens.
In the use of Royal there is an absolute
certainty of pure and wholesome food.
The official State Chemists report: The
Royal Baking Powder does not contain am
monia, alum, lime, nor any injurious ingre
dients. It is absolutely pure and wholesome.
The Government reports show all other
baking powders to contain impurities.
In the use of any baking powder but Royal
there is uncertainty if not actual danger.
It is unwise to take chances in matters of
life and health.

Gentlemen:—I desire to make a brief
statement lor the benefit of the suffering. I
had been afflicted with catarrh of the head,
throat and nose, and perhaps the bladder for
fully twenty-five years, Having tried other
remedies without success, I was led by an
advertisement in the Sentinel-Democrat to
try Hall’s Catarrh Cure. I have just fin
ished my fourth bottle, and I believe I am
right when I say I am thoroughly restored.
I don’t believe there is a trace of the disease
left. Respectfully,
WM. BRID3E3, Merchant Tailor.

Wc offer
you a ready
made medicine for Couglis,
Bronchitis and other dis
eases of the Throat and
Lungs. Like other so called
Patent Medicines, it is well
advertised, and having merit
it has attained a wide sale
under the name of Piso's
Cure for Consumption,
It is now a “Nostrum,”
though at first it was com
pounded after a prescription
by n regular physician, with
no idea that it would ever
go on l he market as a proprie
tary medicine. But uftcr
compounding that preocriii-
tionover a thousand times in
one year, we named it “Piso’s
Cure for Consumption,” and
j began advertising it in a
small way. A medicine
known all over the world ia
the result.
Why is it net just as good
as though costing fifty cents
to a dollar for a prescription
aud an equal sum to have it
put up at a drug store?
