Wo give below, u clipping
from tho Telfair Enterprise,
which, for puerile concepthm,
and assinine reasoning, certainly
merits the time honored slice of
jolly cake:

'J’hc author of the paragrnpli
shows such depth of thought, that
wo wonder with astonishment,
that lto should remain in the
humble position of a weekly edi
tor any length of time. Thai
such progressive thought ns is
exhibited by the author should
remain unacknowledged mid mi-
applauded, is a ceaseless source
of wonder to us, In reply to the
attack on our Teachers' Institute
system, we give below two re
plies to the piece; one from 1’rof.
Albert Hell of tho Cleveland

ablest young teachers in this sec

of School Commissionrr Geo. S.

I'ltor, ltKi.t.’s itKt'i.t,
AN' e are at a loss to locate the
writer of the above. lie mat
bo a bread mid meat teacher, who
does not wish to have his igno
rance exposed, lint it seems
more likely that he is a jour
nalist, that has started out upon
hiH journalistn- career as he wants
tho teachers of (ieorgia to do—
started out upon his work with
little knowledge of the. great and
responsible work before him.
lie says “The people should
and will rise in mass and demand
a repeal of this law, at the next
General Assembly.’’ NYe think
it impossible to gat a “mass" of
ignorance together large enough
to attempt to repeal the best law
we oould'lmve.
It may he true that tho Insti
tutes in some counties have not
done what should have .been done,
lint is the writer of the above so
shallow as to think a law will lie
perfect in its operation when lirst
started into atl'tvl? The fact!
remains Unit the Teachers' Insti
lutes are doing good. Is it pos
sible that lie thinks that there is
so little for a teacher to know
and tea' ll that hr can reach per
feetiou before he starts out to
teach? And yet lie has the pre
sumption to set himself up to ad
vise the people of (ieorgia and to

have special training in every or

when it comes to training of the
minds of our children, tho mold

of tlie national destiny of our
country, it is li ft in tt„- hands of

It is just and right that the ex

well, because the same amount of
money could not I xpended in

1 do not think the next Gsner-

Teachers’ Counlv Institute law,
because we did not elect, men to
represent us who had just as soon
send it man out in the field to
plow for them, without any plo v-
stoek or horse, as to send him
with them. Iltlt wi"■elected men
who believe in having a solid
foundation upon which to build
the greatest interest of (Ieorgia,
and they know that the onlv win
to do this is to have a Terchers' j n
Institute in every comity in the
state. The legislature pa-sed one
of Ihe heat acts it ever did, when
it passed the act that I here should

I he great good that the Institutes
of (ieorgia have done by placing
the teacher upon a higher plain
