Cleveland 6a., September 29, 1893.
Our Congressman.
'I’lie course (hut in l>ein<r per-
HUcd by Hon. F. (’. Tnlc, tho rep-
vesetnlive of the ninth district, in
Congress, cim not fnil to com
mend him to every true demo
crat.
He. hus eurned the reputation of
hointr one of the lnirdcst workers
in tho house, which, no douhl,
led to liin nppoinlment on several
cotnn.i t h o'gre. t, iinportuuce.
lie Mtnnds stpnirely on the dem
ocratic platform, and his vote
shows that he linn forgotten no
pledge he made the people when
he asked them for their support.
The desire to serve his constitu
ents is ever foremost with him,
and that he will sacredly keep
every promise lie made, we do
not doubt.
Mr. Tate has already intro
duced two hills of importance.
One is to repeal the present law
providing how eases tiled in the
state courts may he carried to the
circuit courts of the United States.
The Other hill provides that re
ceivers of railroads and other
property appointed by the United
States courts may he sold and
served in the state courts just as
the corporation for which they
are receivers were sued, and
unwed before the corporation
went, into the hands of a receiver.
If this hill passes, railroads in the
ends of receivers can lie sued in
tho superior courts of the states,
just as railroads which are not
in the hands of receivers are sued
and served. This will allow liti
gants to bring their eases in the
county of judicial circuit, where
the cause of action occurcd, and
the judgement of the state court
will ho conclusive and not subject
to review by the United States
court appointing a receiver.
Preserve Order.
One of our public school teach
ers lmd occasion to administer a
slight punishment to one of his
pupils recently, and for so doing-,
received the follow ing note from
ti e parent, which we give to our
readers, hcrhntim et literatim:
“Mr. Seoul tocher you I’lcase
I> mit Whip My Malty Buy so
lull'd no more if you 1 too me and
yo wil pool wool i wil stop ii
from Seoul i am not you frond no
mour like i an co. was.'’
it is just such notes as the
above sent to teachers that make
so many unruly hoys in tho pub
lic schools.
A hoy merits just punishment
in certain eases, and the teacher
gives it. The hoy goes home,
tells a one sided tale to his pa
rents, and the parents make a row
over it, which only encourages
had hoys to he worse. The pub
lic school laws should he so ar
ranged that unruly pupils could
he expelled from school entirely
without pecuniary loss to the
tear her. As it is now, teachers
arc almost compelled to put up
with all kinds of behavior from
rude children, w1ki.sc parents en-
eouraae them, otherwise they
•piit school, and the average and
compensation is cut down. This
should licit he; lie rules of thej
school should bo niantaiued,
whether Mr. Ho and Ho likes it or
not., and if his children merit the
punishment which it is customary
to give, they should receive it or
he expelled from school,
The greatest trouble the public
school teachers have is trying to
control rude hoys, who are en
couraged and upheld in their dev
iltry by their parents.
Close Up The Ranks.
The result of the recent, elec
tion for representative in Whit
field county has furnished a text
for which the democratic press of
I he state is preaching some salu-
tatory sermons to the people.
These “sermons” are farciiough
in advance of the state campaign
to have a wholesome effect, and
it is hoped that the winds of war
ning uttered here and there will
result in good to the party.
The Iliolto is: “Close up the
ranks,” and enter the battle with
the fill I strengt h of the stale de
mocracy.
There is, perhaps, nothing very
alarming about the loss by tin-
party of one representative to a
solitary county ; hut if voters in
other counties are apathetic and
allow elections of whatever char
acter to go by default, the party
will he lmdly crippled.
The coining state campaign
will he a lively and vigorous one
from start to finish, it is as well,
therefore, to keep the watchlircs
blazing and the sentinels posted.
No ground already gained must
ho lost—and there is no reason
why it should lie, other than that
of a dereliction of duty on tin-
pan of democratic voters.
The parly must he united;
there should he. no stragglers in
the ranks; each man must answer
to his name at roll call anil lie
ready for service.
('lose up the ranks!—Constitu
tion.
Tho (Jeorgia farmers alliance
membership has dwindled to 9,-
000 from about 70,000 two years
ago. Never aviis there such hav
oc wrought liv demagogu-s and
rascals, Avith a great and original
beneficent order, as those fellows
have worked upon the farmers al
liance of thecminlry. It is barely
the ghost of its former vigorous
self. Its fate should he a warning
to all elements of. society, that
need organiz ilian for increased
strength and self help, to avoid
polities as they would refuse to
lake poison; and especially to be
ware of such demagogues as the
Watsons, lhielianans, McDowells
and the rest, who have ruined the
greatest, farmers organization
that existed.-(Miattnnooga Times.
