Men who make money by farm

this season of the year. Then
never was finer weather for sow
ing grain and turning land.
What was the outcome of the
meeting in which it avsh agreed
to improve oui school property,
and build cabins for the use of
fuinilies who live at a distance?
The legislature is in session.
We sincerely hopo it will devote
a good part of its time to the
needed reform of our public
school laws, and the convict ques
tion.
Editor Shaver advertises og<rs

chickens they will produce are
unsurpassed ns frys. Don’t be
lieve it; an editor knows ahso
lutely nothing of such a thing as
» fry. Shuvor’s evidence is mere
ly hearsay.
The senate confirmed Van
Alen's appointment to Koine.
That is one good thing they have
done, at loust. Wo would pre
sent a sorry spectacle as a nation
did we allow the pattern of a
collar, or the cut of trousers, to
figure in the selection of our for
eign representatives.
With plenty of com in his

Operations at the Loud mine,
in White county, are being ac
tively pushed. The rich vein
discovered some time ago is l>c-
inir worked and much gold being
taken from it. We learn that
Mr. It. Iv. Reaves, the owner, was
oll’ered >50,000 for the mine, Imt
it was refused, lie holds it at
>73,000.—Nugset.*
It is all talk about democrats
in White county deserting the
ranks. There is no truth in it.
A few men who voted with the
party last fall for personal rea
sons perhaps, may say they have
lotus, when in fact they were
never one of us. The hone and
sinew of the democratic party in
"White county is intact, and will
remain so.

We notice in the list, of awards
that the Sal Mountain Asbestos
Company of White county, is

Asbestos, and fabrics, packings

product of short fiber Asbestos.
The Sal Mountain company de
serves the admiration and thanks
of our entire county. One ex

Louse Canceled.
Last. Saturday morning Mi.
George Slaton, lessen of the Cal
houn mines, received notice that
liis lease was canceled, and that
the owners dc-ired him to discon
tinue his work at once.
The only reason the owners
had for canceling the lease, was
the fact that Mr. Slaton was get
ting out the shining metal in
such paying quantities, that they
decided that it was poor economy
in them not to work the mines
themselves; lienee, the lease was
canceled, and Professor E. T.
V Ini Hoy, who has been employed
in making a map and survey of
the company’s properties, was
put in charge, and will continue
to push the work vigorously.
I hiring t ho term of M r. Slaton’s
short lease he lias taken outvoter
three thousand penny weights,
and lias proved the property
as second to none, as a mine that
pays handsomely. The last week
Mr. Slaton worked, he took out
about 250 pennyweights, all in
beautiful nuggets.
The Irustcos and the patrons of
the Cleveland school, who have
the upbuilding of our educational
advantages at heart, should make
some effort to have some cheap
cabins built for tho use of fam
ilies who would rent them, and
send their children to school,
This week a man with four chil
dren of school ago, was enquiring
for a house in which he could
move, so he could send to school.
He did not find one ns every house
in and around Clevolnd is occu
