off day in the house. There was de-
oidcJly loss than a quorum during
most of the day. The presence of a
large delegation of ladies in the house
galleries lent the charm of romanco to
tho proceedings. The cause of their
presence was explained by a memorial
sent np to the clerk’s desk by the Hon.
John T. Boifeuillct. Tho memorial
reoited tho importance of the work
done for the women of Georgia by tbe
normal school. This was followed by
tho statement that notwithstanding

Among tho bills reported bnek by
tho finance committee was one intro
duced by Mr. Branch, which provided
for tho establishment of tbe public

was so pleased with tho complete char- |
acter of the bill that, in reporting it
bnek to bo committed to tho commit- |
tee on education, they recommended
tho printing of 200 copies lor tho use .
of tho house. A lively discussion was |
precipitated and the house was in con
siderable confusion. Tho vote dis- 1
closed tho defeat of the motion to '
table—yeas 41, nays 52. A motion to 1

body was on tlie tiptoe of excitement.
They thought tlie governor had at last
decided w ho ho would make principal
keeper of Uhy penitentiary, physician
to the penitentiary and state school
commissioner. The senate hurried
into ixecutive session to get a glimpse
at the " caled communication.” All
. were disappointed, however. The gov
ernor's communication simply notified
the senate that lie had appointed Hon.
John \V. Akin judge of tite city court
of Cartersville. This is very near
ly us important ofllco as either uf the
others expected, aud the senate lost

The Value ot Politeness.
The phr.se man was dilating on the
mine of poljteuesa everywhere, but
especially ic stores, and remarked that
he would discharge a clerk for impo
liteness or inattention quicker than he
wonld for potty theft.
An old resident of Roxbury over
heard the remark and, as an illustra
tion of the importance of politeness on
the port of sttlefinon, said:
“A good many years ago I went to
New York in company with my friend
B, Ono snowy day we Btrolled into
A. T. Htewnrt’s store- Neither of us
intended to mako a purchase. AVe
merely went there ns a matter of curi
osity.
“At the door wo were met by a po
lite gentleman, who insisted that ho
should take our overcoats and umbrel
las to relievo us of the burden of car
rying them about the store. AVo told
him wo were not intending to pnr-
clinse anything, but that made uo dif
ference in his attentions. Another
equally polite gentleman insisted on
eicorting us through the building.
The fact that we did not iutend to pur
chase goods did not lesscu his cour
tesy.
“Finally to entertain us (ho courte
ous clerks showed us a large invoice of
shawls which lmd just been received.
The clerk unfolded one after the other,
and by and by my friend said he would
take a$1,500 India shawl which pleased
him, and a little later I purchased a
valuable carpet. AVhen we entered the
store neither of us had the slightest
intention of making a purchase of any
thing, but tbu politeness of that clerk
put more than $2,000 into the till of
A. T. Stewart which would not have
been there otherwise.
“You are quite right in emphasizing
the vuluc of politeness. It is tho moat
valuable commodity a man or woman
can carry about. It may sometimes be
misplaced, but in tbe long run it pays.”

False Modesty.
Never teach false modesty. How ex
quisitely absurd to tench a girl that
beauty i« no value, dress of no use!
Beauty is of value ; her whole prus-

depend upon a new gown or a becom

common sense, she will ffnd this out.
The great thing is to tench her their

98%
of all ca3C9 of consumption cau. if taken in
tlie earlier stages of tlie disease, be cured.
This may seem like a bold assertion to
those familiar only with the means gener
ally in use for its treatment; as, nasty cod-
liver oil and its filthy emulsions, extract
of malt, whiskey, different preparations of
liypophosphUes*’and such like pallia Him.
Although by many believed to be incura
ble, there is the evidence of hundreds of
living witnesses to the fact that, in all its
earlier stages, consumption is a curable
disease. Not every case, but a large per
centage of cases, and xvc believe. Juf(v 9$
per cent, are cured by Hr. Pierce’s Golden
Medical Discovery, even after the disease
lias progressed so far as to induce repeated
bleedings from the Kings, severe lingering
cough with copious expectoration (includ
ing tubercular matter), great loss of flesh
and extreme emaciation and weakness.
Do you doubt that hundreds of such cases
reported to us as cured by *' Golden Med
ical Discovery ” were genuine cases of that
dread and fatal disease ? You need not take
our word for it. They have, in nearly every
instance, been so pronounced by the best
and most experienced home physicians,
who have no interest whatever* in mis
representing them, and who were often
strongly prejudiced and advised against
a trial of “Golden Medical Discovery,”
but who have been forced to confess that
it surpasses, iu curative power over this
fatal malady, all other medicines with
which they are acquainted. Nasty cod-
liver oil and its filthy “emulsions” and
mixtures, had been tried in nearly all these
cases and liad cither utterly failed to bene
fit, or liad only seemed to benefit a little for
a short time. Extract of malt, whiskey,
and various preparations of the hypophos-
phites had also been faithfully tried in vain.
The photographs of a large number of
those cured of consumption, bronchitis,
lingering coughs, asthma, chronic nasal
catarrh and kindred maladies, have been
skillfully reproduced in a book of 160
pages which will be mailed to you, on re
ceipt of address and six cents in stamps.
You can then write those cured aud lcaiu
ibeir experience.
