A Dog and 1‘urrot Story.
William Winpenny, of Qwoon lane,
was, until a few days ago, the owner
of u pot parrot, which ho had purch
ased in New Orleaus several years ago.
The bird wuh a veritable household
pet, being allowed liberties that no
other parrot ever enjoyed. Its con
stant chatter amused the members of
the family, especially at meal time,
when Polly was regularly placed at
tho table, receiving the choicest tid
bits for her meals. A few days ago
Polly died and was reverently buried
in tho yard with a little headstone to
mark the grave. Tho next day’s din
ner was a mournful one for the family,
Polly being sadly missed. Tho old
house dog, Pomp, looked on with a
wistful eye, surmising that something
was wrong. Tho instinct of tho brute
solved tho problem, aud, without more
ndo, lie went into the garden, dug up
the parrot and, carrying it into the
dining-room, deposited it iu its accus
tomed place. — I'hiladclphia AVeorcL
