Clarkc.sville Advertiser: “II<
is one of the purest men in the
State and in point of anility can
not he excelled.”
Darien Gazette: “lion. if. li.
Perry, of Hall county, is out for
congress up in the Ninth. This
looks a little squally for Carter
'Tale.”
Savannah Press: “Tom Winn
will lie the Populist nominee for
congress in the Ninth. II. II. Per
ry will run on the sound money
Democratic platfoim. Now,where
does Carter Tate come in? 'The
Populist candidate pre-empts the
free silver issue. The tight is log
ically between Winn and Perry.”
(Jaiuesvillc Engle:
You all
hear the people say, ‘Henry Perry
is a good man—a man of exalted
character, and one of the ablest
men in the Shite, hut the people
don’t know him.' 'Those are all
facts hut the people will know j | Hll .
him., and that soon ; and we can j t^o
say to lus everlasting advantage'
that wherever he makes an ac
quaintance lie will make a friend.
Ability will wear. Character will
not shrink in the washing. A just
cause al ways has fast colors. Pure
gold has no fear of acids.
r-IIE age in which we live is
_l_ one of ceaseless activity ; one
^ m which he who would hold
a place m the press of the throng
must do an amazingly large lot of
hustling, wind her he feels like it
or not.
It is right and natural for man
to work; it was so intended by
the Creator of our being. Hut it
is a rebellion against nature's de
crees to labor in any manner when
the physical and mental members I
demand repose.
Ambition in men is commend
able, but when it at tains absolute 1
control of tlr-m it, proves a most
tyrannical and exacting master.
In tho mad rush for the
I reasure, ('onlcntment,
awaits us at. end of tin
lined rainbow of Fame, we train-j
pie in heedless haste alike over.
Life’s velvety, flower strewn dells
and rugged, thorn-imbedded hills,
neither tasting i lie pleasures of ex
istence nor feeling acutely the
poignant trials thereof.
When a man attains prominence
in any sphere in life; when he be
comes exalted above his fellow be
ing and in Ins particular province
becomes a leader, thedeinands up
on him are roienlless and must lie
met, and m a maimer that, touch
es the notch of popular expecta
tion. The result i> overwork and
an untimely end; and oft-times
the flame dickers and ceases when
its radiance is most needed.
We believe this over-lax of Ihe
mental powers is m union in any
and all of the morccxalte I of life’s
pursuits, but particularly true of
who become leaders in the
world of I i teral urc.

Headers may well be compared to
friii! silverites, and as was expect
ed by ns, they adopted the. one
convention plan. No substantial
reason was given for the change
from patty precedent, nor could
have been gT'en. The change was
made because it looked to a degree
of success for the silver faction.
Now comes forth the lion. Chas.
F. Crisp and desires the people to
express their choice for United
States senator before the people
have barely achunco to know who
is in the race. We favor an ex
pression by the people in thismat-
t>r, but why does Mr. Crisp wish
to rush matters? The October
election will he early enough for
the jieople to express their pref
erence, for the choice should not
he made until after life national
platform is made and its declara
tions known. Then the next sen
ator can he intelligently chosen.
Now we get nearer home. It,
has hern stated that Hon. Carter
Tale and his henchmen would liko
mighty well to precipitate affairs
and have delegates selected to the
congressional convention before
Mr. Perry has a chance to make a
thorough canvass <*f the district.
All uncertain, qualmy feeling
appears to have seized the pet
hunting silvent.es as the truth of
“where they will he ill” dawns
upon them. They realize that a
wondrous revulsion of sentiment
against free sliver will he sure to
follow the campaign of education
which will ho waged before the
people throughout the State, and
that they will he hopelessly left.
'They fear a fair presentation of
both sides of tho question, and
well they may. This fear wlii-li
silver advocates are so plainly
showing evidences the fact that
they expect disastrous results
to the cause the weakness of which
nono know better than them
selves.
