The company recently purchased
a new ten stamp pounding mill
and was apparently just getting
into good working shape, and, in
deed, we hear that tlie prospect
was good vhen work at the mine
was stopped.
The asbestos works have dosed
down for awhile. The asbestos
taken out here is the short fibre,
and the mine in this county is said
to lie the only short fibre mine in
the world. Short fibre asbestos
is cheaper than the long fibre hut
as it is yet comparatively un
known the demand for it is not
great. Work has boon suspended
only temporarily; until the stock
on hand can he disposed of.
Col. Joe Underwood spent last
week in Gainesville, attending to
professional business. He speaks
feelingly of the weather served
him while there.
Miss Orelia Key Hell returned
to Atlanta last Mondav, after a
visit of two weeks at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. U. T. Kenimer.
Mrs. C. C. Spence left Monday
for a visit to relatives and friends
in Covington.
The singing at Zion Sunday was

The delegates t.o the Congres
sional convention of the 9lh Con
gressional Distiict of Georgia met
in the court house in Gainesville,
Ga,, today at It o’clock a. m.
The body was called to order by
Hon. J. W. Henley, of Pickens
county, temporary chairman, in
a ringing speech for Democracy.
The body then went into perma
nent organization. Hon. Chits. II.
Brand, of Gwinnett, was elected
permanent chairman of the con
vention and G. S. Kyilo secretary.
The roll of the convention was
then called and all responded ex
cept Towns county, nftoi which
the convention went into the nom
ination of a candidate to repre
sent the 9th Congressional Dis
trict, in the 55th Congress. The
name of lion. F. C. Tate, of Pick
ens county, was put in nomina
tion by Col. (’has. L. Bass, of
Habersham enmity, and there be
ing no other name placed before
the convention the Hon. F. C.
Tate was unanimously nominated.
The chair then appointed to noti
fy tliellon. F. C. Talc of his nom
ination the following committee:
Col. CyT,. Bass, Dr. F. J. Erwin,
and Cbb W. F. Findley.
The platform committee, of
which Col. W. F. Findley was
chairman, reported the following
platform, which was unanimously
adopted by the convention:

many friends. The groom is a
trusted official in the employment
of the M. & N. Ga., railroad office,
and also second lieutenant of the
Marietta Rifles. He is a young
man of gentlemanly deportment,
generous impulses and noble char
acter. and lias a score of friends.
The bride is the youngest daugh
ter of Col. L. N. Trammell, State
Railroad Commissioner, and is a
lovely type of Southern woman
hood, possessing those amiable
traits of character and personal
charms that win and hold the de
votion and love of true hearts.
