j ilJ g general presentments:
Through the usual committees, we find the
! various County Officers have discharged
| their duties, and their hooks appaar correct;
also the Court House and J til in good con
dition and well kept.
We find, from tiie Treasurer’s books, the
indebtedness of the County to be §3022 49-
The estimated amount to meet the
expenses of Jurors, feeding pris
oners and pauper fund to be 3000 00
Making a total of $6 22 19.
We recommend an assessment of 50 per
cent, on .Siate tax to meet the abc' T e a
meunt, and also such per cent, as shall be
necessary to meet the expenses of building
the Jail.
We find the , v uperintendent of the Poor I
House to be an efficient officer; books, vouch
ers an 1 management correct and proper.—
We find all the rooms neat and in good con
dition. Inmates, 15 whites and 2 colored;
all of whom express themselves satisfied with
the treatment they receive. ; Wennd 78 •> lbs.
bacon. 5G bushels c6rn, 15 head stock hogs,
3 milch cows and 3 dry cows, also 45 bushels
of oats sowed on the farm The Stock all
looks well —a garden of Jof an acre newly
enclosed, and the farm well managed.
Wc find the public roads of the County in
good condition, with a few exceptions:
Ist. That portion of the Alabama road
near the residence of Rev. VI ni. Cuuyus,
caused by an embankment thrown up by the
Cartersville & Van Wert Railroad. Wo re
commend the Commissioners' have said ob
struction removed at once by applying to
the Railroad authorities.
2nd. In the Gib District, near Mrs. Mur
phy s, we find a portion of the Cantou road
to need an extraordinary amount of labor,
and thai said labor should be done at a dry
season of the year. We, therefore, recom
mend that the Commissioners of said District
have until the next regular term of this
Court to put said road in the condition re
quired by law.
We find some of the roads in tli%» 17th Dis
trict are not posted, and finger boards not
Kept up, as the law directs. Wo, therefore,
Present the Commissioners of said District
for default in these particulars.
That portion of the Canton road near Mr.
God. Host on sis in a bad condition, owing
to the fact tha it runs along the bed of at
lai branch, which renders it difficult to be
kept up. Wc recommend that'said read be
put Upon better ground, provided the right
of way can be obtained without expense* to
too County, and that the Commissioners of
* Di h ll- ict cause all the road hands in the
District to assist in opening said road.
We respectfully request of his Honor, J.
It. Parrott, that he impose no fines on the
Commissioners of t lie Sixth, Pine Log and
Alatoona Districts, in as much as their re
spective roads have been worked, and are
now in good condition.
hie consent of the parties concerned,
and the right of way being given, we rec
ommend a change of the road leading from
Fan-mount by Sonora, to wit; Leaving the
old road near L. It. Beaman’s, running south
and intersecting the Canton road between Z.
B. Ayccck’s and Wm. Shuler's.
We further recommend that the Ordinary
g: ant an older to open anew road commenc
ing at the eastern limit of Cartersville, pass
ing through the gap of the mountain, and in
tersecting the road from Cartersville to Can
ton at or near the Mansfield bridge, provid
ed the right of way can be obtained without
expense to the County.
We also recommend that the Ordinary
grant an order to establish a public road to
commence near Dr. Milam's residence, and
leading westward to intersect the road lead
ing from Euharlee t 0 Rome, at or near tVe
residence of Daniel. Lowry, provided the
parties through whose land said road shall
pass, grant the right of way free of charge
We recommend that the Ordinary grant,
an older to establish a road, commencing at
the south end of Erwin Street, town f Car
iei svihe, thence across Etowah River at
l'uuilin’s mill, intersecting the road leading
from Puckett’s ferry to the old Alabama
road, provided the right of way be granted
tree of expense to the county, and that a
free bridge be built and kept up across said
river by private subscription.
The last L-gislaturc having authorized t! e
Ordinary of liartow county to assess a tax
to pay cost in insolvent cases, and the Ordi
nary having refused to levy said tax, meets
the approbation of this body. We regard'
the passage of said Act as a piece of great
injustice, and recommend that no tax be im
posed for said purpose, and that cur Repre
sentatives to tne next Legislature exert
themselves for its repeal.
i he necessities of the times require a wc 1
organized school system, and we arc glad to
kaow that the initiatory steps are now being
taken to tho accomplishment of that great
end. The able and efficient clerk of the
Board of Education has done a great amount
of labor in drawing maps and subdividing
the Districts, but it will require time, pa
tience and perseverance to put into opera
tion this new system, and the members of
the Board are using their best energies to
put it in operation as speedily as possible,
and we are willing to leave the system to
ihe sonna judgment and experience of those
to whom its management has been entrusted.
We tender our thanks to his Honor, J- R.
Parrott, tor his kindness to this body, also
to the Solicitor General, and the officers of
•he Court, for their kindness to us during
the term.
We reccommend that the Ordinary make

To the Editor:
In another column you advertise the Lang
uor Fertilizer, the price of which has been
S6O per ton. Although this is below the
price of any other reliable commercial ma
nure in the market, yet I have determined to
make the price still lower. The Langdon is
a home production, made from well known
articles produced here, (Bones and Cotton
Seed Meal mainly)-and I can afford to man
ufacture and sell it cheaper than any foreign
manufacturer can put his product in this mar
ket.
Again, I have this year so developed and
perfected my works as to reduce the cost of
manufacture considerably; and lastly, so
generous has been the support of this new
Southern enterprise by our planters, in giv
ing the Langdon their preference, that I pro
pose to reciprocate by giving them all the
advantage 1 possess in the production of the
article.
The price hereafter will he only SSO per
ton for lots of five or more tons, $55 for less
amounts, and $3 per hundred pounds for
amounts less than a ton. At this low price
every good farmer will use fertilizers.
Please give this a few insertions for the
benefit of your pluuter readers.
Very Respectfully,
W. D. MANX,

WALTHAM
WATCHES.
The extensive use of these watches for t he
last fifteen years by Railway Conductors,
Engineers and Expressmen, the most exact
ing of watch-wearers, has thoroughly de
monstrated the strength, steadiness, durahil
ity and accuracy of the W .Itham watch.—
To satify that class in all these respects, is
to decide the question as to the real value of
these time-lceepers.
More than 50ft,000 of these watches
are now speaking for themselves in the
pockets of the people—a proof and a guar
antee of their superiority over all others.
The superior organization and great ex
tent of the Company’s Work’s at Waltham,
enables them to produce watches at a price
which renders competition futile, and those
who buy any other watch merely pay 2o to
00-per cent, more for their watches than is
necessary.
J heso time-pieces combine every improve
ment that a long experience has proved of
real practical use. Having had the refusal
of nearly every invention in watch-making
originating in this country or in Europe,
only those were finally adopted which
severe testing by the most skillful artisans
in our works, and long use on the part of
the public, demonstrated to be essential to
correct and enduring time keeping.
Among the many improvements we would
particularize:
The invention and use of a centre-pinion
of peculiar construction, to prevent damage
to the train by the breakage of mainsprings,
is original with the American Watch
Company, who, having had the refusal of all
other contrivances, adopted Fogg s patent
pinion as being best and faultless.
Hardened and tempered hair-springs,now
universally admitted by Watchmakers to be
the best, are used in all grades of Waltham
Watches.
All Waltham Watches have dust-proof
caps, protecting the movement from dust,
and lessening the necessity of the frequent
cleaning.necessary in other watches.
Our new patent stem-wind r, or keyless
watch is already a decided success, and a
great improvement on any stem-winding
watch in the American market, and by far
the cheapest watch of its quality now offer
ed to the public. To those living in por
tions of the United States where watch
makers do not abound, watches with the
above mentioned improvements which tend
to insure accuracy, cleanliness, durability
and convenience, must prove invaluable.
