Christian Charity.
« Qukity Thinketu No Evil,” is a
plain lesson taught us iu the Sacred
Scriptures. What is charity -the eu
t,lJing Christian virtue that St. Paul*
iD particular, so highly commends to
las Christian brethren in his epistles to
t l lC churches, and the one which he
ilecl re ß towers above Faith, the load
.toUt, that guides the old ship of ziuu
.cross the rapids of time and over that
portion of the ocean of eternity which
|, e9 between the boundary line and the
eternal throne of God i and Hope, the
ADcbor that secures her amidst the
storms and tempests of life, and fast
ens her iu the port of heaven. Chari
ty is the fare upon which her crew sub
sists while sailing on board the old
ship to the eternal world, and upon
which angels and ransomed souls sub
fliat throughout its endless cycles—
It is heaven born and heaven bound,
and the toweling attribute of Deity—
which is ’’Love.” The bread of heav
en! It brought the Sou of God to
earth, veiled him iu humanity, led
him over the thorny mazes and thro’
tho fiery furnaces of time and sense,
Bailed him to tho bloody cross, extin
guished the flame of mortal life, shut
Him up in the tomb manacled with the
icy, iron grasp of Deal h, to grapple
with that dread monster for the vic
tory. It was Love that sundered these
manacles and raised Him a triumph
ant conqueror over Death with all its
train of ills. Love led Him back to
the bosom of the Father, and there
tj-day he sits enshrined in love, plead
ing for all his saints yet veiled in mor
tal flesh. He says “I overcame all for
vou,” speaking to his disciples on earth.
«Oh for such Love ! let rocks anti hills
Their lasting silence break,
Ami all harmonious human tongues
Their Saviour’s praises speak.”
Again He says “If any man will be
mj disciple, let him deny himself, take
up his cross, and FOLLOW ME 1”
While hanging, bleeding, and dying
upon the cross, in agony and blood,
amidst the shouts, revilings, and mock
ings of those around Him, and for
whom He was suffering, and for whom
He died ; amidst the dark scene, while
the sun blushed in blood and veiled
his face in darkness, and the earth
reeled and tottered as a drunken man,
He raised His eyes to heaven and ut
tered the following sweet prayer: “Fa
ther forgive them, they know not what
they do.” Ah! what amazing charity !
Brother ! bister 1 Christian pilgrim ! is
this the prayer you offer for those who
abuse and persecute you ? “ Follow
me,” says tho Saviour. Not only did
our Saviour not call for a legion of
angels to assist Him, or call down the
vengeance of an incensed Father upon
the guilty heads of his murderers, but
not a revengeful thought arose in His
great and merciful soul. “Love your
enemies. Pray for them that curse
you and spitefully mistreat and abuse
you.” Brother! sister! Christian pil
grim ! Do you love and pray for your
enemies? The Saviour did, and He
says “Follow me.” “If ho smite you
on your right cheek, turn to him the
left also; if he sue you at law and take
away your coat, give him your cloak
also ; if he compel you to go with him
a mile, go with him two.” This is the
Saviour’s own language—his gospel—
to tho unbelieving Jews. It is the
same gospel addressed to us, to-day.—
Ihe jews were astonished at His teach
ings then, and so are we now. An eye
for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth,
was the law of Moses, but not of our
Saviour ; His law is “ little children,
love one another, and pray one for
another.” He was arrested and drag
ged before earthly tribunals, but he
dragged no one there himself. Broth*
er! sister I Christian pilgrim ! Are you
following in the foot-prints of your
Lord and Master, and obeying His
injunctions? “Follow me,” says the
Saviour. Paul writes a letter to some
of his brethren and says “Brethren, I
learn that, when you come together,
there is strife and division among you,
one saying I am of Appollos, another
I am of Paul, another I am of Cephas,
and another lam of Christ.” And he
reproved them for their partizan ani
mosities-and predilections. Is not the
spirit of preferment extant among us,
as a Christian people, that character
ized those brethren thus reproved by
the Apostle? Two-thirds of the trou
bles that distress minds, severs the
ties of friendship and affection, and
disintegrates churches and society, i s
gendered by the hateful principle* of
selfishness, and is its legitimate off
ering, whose fruits consists in fornent
-IDg strife and discord among breth
and friends. Selfishness is dia
metrically opposed to the “charity that
‘hinketh no evil, is not puffed up, and
md doth not behave itself unseemly;
-ufforth long and is kind, envieth not,
muiiteth not itself, seeketh not her
it; not easily provoked, rejoiceth
* m iniquity, but rejojeeth iu the
r »th, beareth all things, believeth all
mgs, hopeth all things, endurcih all!
thiugs, and never faileth.” Brother,
sister, cht is'iuu pilgrim ! have you tins
Charity ? If not, St. Paul says “you
have become as sounding brass or a
tinkling syinbal. - ’ But if you have it,
you have the brightest jewel that glit
ters in the bosom of Deity. Without
it you are eternally lost, but it
you are eternally saved, for neither
principalities nor powers, things pre
sent no things to come, nor heighth,
nor depth, nor auy other creature, can
! separate you from it.

TRUST TO LUCK.
It is one of the inherent characteristics of
our human nature “to trust to luck.” There
is scarcely an enterprise in life, in which,
Chance does not play the most important
part. And it is on this principle that 2,404
people, the lucky holders of tickets in the
great drawing of the South Carolina Land
and Immigration Agency of Messrs. Butler,
Chadwick & Gary, will be made supremely
happy as the recipients of prizes, ranging iu
value, from ten to two hundred and fifty
thousand dollars. The plan is taking like
wildfire wherever it has been published, and
agents are reaping handsome profits from
the sale of tickets. That which ensures its
success however, is the distinguished char
acter of the gentlemen by whom it is con
trolled, and the certainty that the drawing
will be conducted with honesty and impar
tiality
A Few Word* to the 1 Julies.
Many ladies, particularly mothers nurs
ing, complain of a tired, listless feeling, or
complete exhaustion, on arising in the morn,
ing. On the wife and mother devolves the
responsibility of regulating the duties of the
household. Her cares are numerous, and
the mental as the physical powers are fre
frently called into requisition. She often
finds her slightest occupation n weary task
and existence a burden, while at the same
time she has no regular disease. Hostetter's
Stomach Bitters, if resorted to at this period
will prove an unfailing remedy for this an
noying lassitude. The effects of this potent
agent are soon seen in the rosy cheek and
elastic step of the head of the family, as
with restored health and renewed spirits she
takes her accustomed place in the family
circle. If this friend in need be regularly
used, those depressing symptoms will never
be complained of, and not only would lassi
tude not bo experienced, but many diseases
following its advent be avoided. Asa med
ical agent it has no cqiial, while its pleasing
flavor and healthful effect have made it a
general favorite. It is free from all prop
erties calculated to impair f*e system, and
its operations are at once mild, soothing and
efficient. All who have used the Bitters at
test iis virtues and comtueud it to use.

Tobacco is a great weed, according to our
estimation, although those who don’t use it
think otherwise. It is certainly a great lux
ury, to say the least of it., Chewing and
Smoking good tobacco, such as is sold by
Jourdan, Howard & Harralson, the largest
wholesale tobacco dealers in the South, At
lanta, Ga., is a great solace to the troubled
mind, and a great companion around the
lonely hearthstone or on a wearisome jour

for the thirsty, and far better than “sper
rits.”

The ‘‘Pain Killer ’ may justly be styled
die great medicine of die world, for there is
no region of the globe into which it has not
found its way, and been largely used and
highly prized. Moreover there is no c!in*«
to which it has riot proved to be welt adapted
for the cure of a considerable variety of dis
eases: it is a speedy and sale remedy for
burns,, serious cuts, bruises, wounds .and va
rious other injuries, as well as for dysente
ry, diarrhoea and bowel complaints general
ly, it is admirably suited for every lace of
nten on the face of the globe.
It is a very signficant fact, that nofliwitb
sranding llic long period of years that the
“Pain Killer” has been before the world, it
has never lost one whit of its popularity, and
at no previous time has the demand for it
been so great, or the quantity made been so
large, as it is to : dny.
Another significant fact is, that nowhere
has the Pain Killer ever been in higher re
pute, or been more generally used by fami
lies and individuals, than it has been here
at. home, where it was first discovered and
and introduced. That the Pain Killer will
continue to be, what we have styled it, the
GREAT MEDICINE OF THE WORLD, tllCl'e Ca»-
not be the shadow of a doubt.—Providence
Advertiser.
A Chapter of Facts.
Space is valuable in a newspaper, and it
is therefore proposed in this advertisement
to condense a variety of facts, important to
the public, into a small compass. Those
facts refer to Hostetler’s Stomach Bitters —
what that celebrated medicine is and wbat
it. will do. In the first place, then, the arti
cle is a stimulant, tonic and alterative, con
sisting of a combination of an absolutely
pure spirituous agent with the most valua
ble medicinal vegetable substances that Bot
anic research has placed at the disposal of
the chemist and the physician. These in
gredients are compounded with great care,
ani in such proportions as to produce a pre
par&tion which invigorates without exciting
the geribral system, and tones, regulates and
controls the stomach, the bowels, the liver,
and the minor secretive organs.
Whai_this great restorative will do must
be gathered from what it has done. The
case of dyspepsia, or any other form of in
digestion, in which it has been persistently
administered without effecting a radical cure
is yet to be heard from, and the same may
be said of bilious disorders, intermittent fe
ver, nervous affections, general debility,
constipation, sick headache, mental disabili
ties, to which the feeble arc so subject. It
purifies all the fluids of the body, including
the blood, and the gentle stimulus which it
imparts to the nervous system is not succeed
ed by the slightest reaction. This is a chap
ter of facts which readers, for their own
sakes, should mark and remember.

Grover and Baker Sewing Machine
mHIS celebrated Sewing Machine has been in
■ use for nearly twenty years, and is now us
ed by over three hundred thousand families,
and has gained a reputation far above any oth
er sewing Machine. It htfs been awarded mere
national prizes than any other machine in the
world; at the Great World’s Fair at New York,
it was awarded the Gold Medal ; at the London
Fair it won the very highest prize, and in ISGT,
at Paris, it was awarded the Cross of the Legion
of Honor; besides this, it has won the First
Premium at all the State Fairs where it has
been exhibited. However, we do notclaitn that
premiums won at our State and County Fairs
any great honor or mark of distinction, as it
depends more on the operator than the machine,
they seldom have judges who are mechanics,
ami judges of a Sewing Machine. At National
Fairs there are a sworn Committee, who are
judges of machinery. The following are some
of the reasons why the Grover & Baker is the
best:
It is the lightest running Machine in use; it is
the simplest; it is more rapid in its movements;
sews directly from two spools without rewind
ing; sews all kinds of work without haisting,
can do twice as much work in a day as any
other machine; it is the most durable, anil
almost noiseless; it sews equally well on all
kinds of goods, from the linest Swiss muslin to
the heaviest Beaver cloth; makes the elastic
lock-stitch much the strongest in use, an do very
machine is fully warranted. Who can dcsiro
any more in a sewing machine. There is every
variety and size of these machines, from the
lightest family to the heaviest leather machine.
These machines are now for sale at Cartersvillc,
Ga., bvLedn A CAMP, in one of Judge Parrott’-*
new Store Houses, under the City hall. Ma
chines will he delivered to customers either in
or out of the city, and full instructions given
free of charge; and should any of our machines
fall short of our recommendation, the money
will lte cheerfully refunded or placed in it’s
stead any oilier machine in use. Old Machines
repaired and put in good order on the very
shortest notice.

aud your feelings will tell you when. Keep the blood
pure, and tho health of the system will follow.
Pin, Tape, nml other Worms, lurking in the
system of eo many thousands, are effectually destroyed
and removed. Says a distinguished physiologist,
there is scarcely an individual upon the face of the
earth whose body Is exempt from the preaence of
worms. It is not upon tho healthy elements of the
body that worms exist, but upon the diseased humor*
and slimy deposits that' breed these living monsters of
disease. No System of Medicine, no vermifuges, no
anthelmintics will free the system from worms like
these Bitters.
