To the Citizens of Bartow County. We beg leave to state that it is our intention to canvass this count}' for the sale of fruit and ornamental trees. We are representing the “Gate City Nursery,” located near Atlanta, Ga. This is a Southern nursery, established by Southern men, to propagate South ern fruit trees, for a Southern mar ket. Will you encourage them with your patronage, or will you patronize Northern nurseries, and thereby allow yourselves to bo imposed upon by get ting trees that will not succeed here. The Gate City Nursery is presided over by Messrs. Gen. John B. Gor don, J. W. Akers and Rev. Wm. P. Patillo. The names of these gentle men are a sufficient guarantee of its. reliability. They only sell such trees as are known to do well in the South trees that originated here, or those from a distance that have been thoroughly tested. They never send out a tree whose characteristics are not fully known, or whose bearing and keeping qualities are not fully ascertained Inasmuch as your country was can* vassad last year for the sale of nursery stocks by some Northern nurseryman, and in view of the fact that many of you have been induced by those sweet talking yankees to make purchases, which no doubt you have regretted ere this, and will have much greater cause for regret when you have fruited them, and knowing that the result will have a tendency to discourage you in the culture of fruit, I would say, be not discouraged. You have the soil and the climate, and can make the fruit crop one of the 'most profitable grown* if you will but buy such varieties as are adapted to the South. I beg leave to state that it is my intention to can vass your county for such varieties as we have tested and found to succeed in a soil and climate similar to this of yours. While we have no desire to encour age sectional prejudices, we do insist that every person of this section should buy fruit trees from Southern nur series. It is a rare thing that trees adapted to the climate of the North succeed here, and those that do, will be found in our collection. It is reason able, then, to suppose that we have got the article you want; at any rate, you will be more likely to find them here than among those who are supplying ft different section, and a much colder eiimate. Encourage Southern nurseries. They are among the many wants of the South, iu her present impoverished erudition. We pledge ourselves to sell cm low as any responsible parties en gaged in the same business. Messrs, flordon, Akers & Patillo, guarantee every tree to be true to name, and every effort has been made to get those varieties best adapted to our soil ftftd climate. John T. No mis, Agent Gate City Nursery. Mcß ide & Co.—lt always gives us jdeaunre to speak of this house be cause it has drawn such an amount of irade to Atlanta, in having superior advantages ip. obtaining goods. It bos thrown vast quantities of goods €»« the maiket in all the Southern States, east of the Mississippi, except jbouisiana, at such figures that no market can lower them. Its business was so extensive and its help so f>erienced that it was necessary to se cure the services of an experienced business man, in their particular line, to better systematize their shipping and selecting goods. This house receives orders from Augusta, Macon, Columbus, Mont gomery, Selma, Mobile, and several points in Mississippi and Tennessee. Mr. Hmry D. Law, one of the part ners in the house, an old crockery im porter, of New York city, makes all purchases and furnishes this house with all goods of foreign manufacture. He paid our city a visit this summer and spent several days looking at At lanta enterprise, bestowing compli ments on the energies of our citizens. At his request Colonel Mcßride went on to New York city, to make selection from stocks of goods most suitable for this market.—Tney sent forward im mediately one ol the largest shipments that has been or will be received in this market, perhaps, during the sea son; taking due advantage of the many competing routes. They have leased that large building now being erected on Broad and Marietta, and are having it finished to suit their business. This will give them more room. They will continue their house on Whitehall also, we are informed. Such a house truly deserves eulogy n drawing trade to Atlanta.— All Int. fatal IM>. JOHN J. HOWARD , Axubeiaie Loc<tl. LOCAL ITEMS. Dry w T arm weather continues, good for saving fodder and crab grass-hay, and for maturing cotton. Save hav, remember the scarcity of it last spring. Sow more turnips. Th<§ last sown, did not come up well; try again. Pay your debts. Yes, in spite of homestead and personalty. The laws delay,.and all other causes, why? De cause, you owe them, and because, you promised to pay them , Because, the law of God says, pay your debts, be cause, it is honest to do so. If you are a christiau, obey the command. “ Owe no man Anything if you are a moralist, pay your obligations, so that your morality will not suffer, if honest. Then pr omptly pay off scores against you, and don’t be afraid of the sheriff. Members of churches, pay your honest debts, be a iight to the world in this as well as in religious matters. Some person, or persons, sold you goods for the use of your family, or loaned you money to assist you, when you were in a close place; now go and pay off those obligations. Don’t call a man who accommodated you with money, a shy lock and a rascal, simply because, he wants his money back again; oh, no— pay him, and thank him for his con fidence in you, and then you can open his pocket book again, when you want to borrow. The Primitive Baptists, known as “Hard shells/' make it a point of Christian dnt}% to pay their debts, and deal with members of the chuich, if they do not pay them. In this matter they have set a noble ex ample to all churches, and which they would do well to adopt. Let the people of Bartow inaugurate anew state of things, it is a noble county filled with excellent people; let us begin .at once to pay as much of our indebtedness to each other as we can; if we cannot pay all we owe, let us pay a portion of it. If all were to adopt this method, it would give life and energy to business, and commence the dawn of real prosperity. Let us trace the history of even one hundred dol lars, sent on a mission of debt paying, and see, what it can and does do. In the morning A pays B a hundred dollars. B’s countenance brightens up, for he promised C to pay him SIOO to-day. He paj T s it, and C pays it to D, and he to E, and E to F, and so it goes on, and pays ten debts of SIOO .each, making SI,OOO 00, all paid, and at night the last holder calls on A, to pay him the SIOO he owes him. Now, A finds at night the SIOO, he started in the morning, back in his pocket, and $l,lOO 00 paid, and all thinking well of each other for promptness. Give it a start, citizens of Bartow, and we will all feel its beneficial results. This is the season, when our merchants wish o renew their stocks of goods. How can they do it, unless their customers pay them ? Come forward, customers, and pay off like men, and do not forget the Express. Cotton in good demand at 15|. Wheat, red, $1.00; white, 1.10. Hay would sell readily in our town. Work out the streets to the Fair ground. Goods selling low at • Cartersville. Ccme all, who want to buy bargains. Internal Revenue Taxes. —By the Act of Congress, approved July 12, 1870, the taxes on sales imposed by the Internal Revenue Laws, except such as are by existing laws paid by stamps, are repealed. Section 3 repeals the special tax on boats, barges and flats; on legacies and successions; on passports and on gross receipts. Section 4 repeals the Stamp A6t im posed on promissory notes for less than SIOO, and on receipts of any sum, or for payment of debt; also on canned or preserved fish. The act also repeals the income tax on amounts less than $2,000. New York, August 27. —A reported battle yesterday near Rheims; heavy cannonading heard, but no particulars. The engagement probabl/ between McMahon and Prince Frederick or the Crown Prince. The Crown Prince at Bar Le Due •was joined by part of the King’s forces. The united army is moving rapidly, and will probably reach Paris Tuesday or Wednesday. The King’s object is to conclude the campaign as speedily as possiole. Napoleon is with McMahon, but McMahon’s whereabouts is unknown. Public, feeling in Paris is very hope ful. 5 All vagrants and )jad women turned out of Paris. | TOWN MATTERS. That claims its victims throughout the length and breadth of our land. Many females suffer in some way at each mon thly period; some girls are in great peril at the commencement of menstruation, whild older ones dread it's decline at the “turn of life.”— Sometimes the menstrual flow is too much, or too little, or may be attended with pain; may he irregular or entirely checked, or changed in appearance, attended with other distressing symptoms. Lencorrlwra, or the “Whites,*, fre quently drains the system, or ulceration of the womb may create pain and cause rapid prostra tion. Falling of the womb is an exceedingly com mon complaint, giving much trouble and dis tress, w hich, under ordinary treatment, is difli cult to cure. Mysteries, (liven Sickness, Irritability of the "Womb, and other serious and fatal complaints follow the female sex throughout life. Lives there a medical gentleman who has or can re lieve the fair sex of the above troubles? Not many. Is there no combination of remedial a gonts that wilt come to her rc>ou«» v Wo. answer, Yes. When neglected all these symptoms become aggravated, there is sick stomach, heartburn, a dark line sett les under the eyes, the legs and ami ankles are swollen, the hair loses its gloss and falls off. there is brittleness and splitting of the finger-nails, swollen abdomen, extreme nervousness, fretful ness, pains and aches, dry cough.
