DR. O. S. PROPIIITT:
Sir: My wife has been an invalid for fifteen
years. Doctors all agreed she had “Liver Dis

Amusement.
Mr. Editor: Th<*se long winter ev
enings are very tedious indeed ! Will
you allow me sufficient space in the
columns of your paper to sagged to
our young people how they ramy be
pleasantly spent ? lam satisfied tha f
you will, for there is within the juris
dictional limits of Cartersrille, no man
more public spirited than yourself.
Then, first—we would suggest to
the young men— alt ftf them who are
not at this time members of the Liter
ary Society, to go out on Friday night
next connect themselve* with said So
ciety; perform the duties, when requir
ed, of regular members. That Society
should be encouraged and sustained
by the young men of our town. It can
be made a pleasant resort, once n
week, during the winter, both for la
dies and gentlemen. Every young
man in our town should be a member,
and avail himself of an opportunity to
reap the benefits of the good Library
attached to said Society. So come
out at the next regular meeting, and
assist in determining the question
whether “Hamlet’s insanity was feigu
ed or real and be sure to bring ber
“whom you adore,” along with you.—
Secondly—we should have a musi
cal Society in Cartersville. Have we
not musical talent enough iu our town
to organize a Society which could give
entertainments at our “city hall,” once
a month, thus affording to or.r people
refined and exquisite pleasure ? A so
ciety of this character would not only
afford our people refined entertain
ment, but it could, by charging a small
admission fee, in a short time, repair,
paint up, and inclose our several
churches.
Then we should have a 'Social Club/
the object of which should be, appar
ently, to cultivate “habits of gaod so
ciety,” but really, to afford to bashful
boys a golden opportunity to whisper
words almost as sweet and tender as
kisses—which generally awake a sweet
and tender reply in words, breathed
in silvery tout s, with blushing cheeks,
and down cast eyes that, when raised,
look brighter and more brilliant than
the twinkling stars of heaven 1 Ah!
who would not attend such a gather
ing 1 Young man! is it not a far
brighter and happier way of passing
time, thaii sitting before your grate,
solitary and alone, where you can hear
the winter winds sigh around you, and
only dream you hear the silver voice of
one, for whom, you would instant y
rush frantically away from the cold
and dreary realm of Buehelordom.
The R.nk should not be forgotteu,
for, oh! ’tis a most delightful place to
roll away dull time ! Bub theu, it it.
said you should not go to the Rink,
young man 1 Why ? Because there
you commence a roll th.it will carry
you rapidly down into the seething,
boiling cauldron of eternal woe and
despair 1
We any, in reply to this, with all de
ference and respect for the opinions of
others, that the Bink is a pleasant
and innocent place of amusement. —
There is a Skating Bink in Atlanta,
Augusta, Savannah, Macon, Columbus.
Borne and many other places in the
State. We say let every one who
wants to, cry that skating is “fie-tieish’ ’
to their hearts’ content We will on
ly answer, that with a lady or gentleman,
there is no danger of becoming very,
very faux-pa-pa-iah I
Oh, the great goodness of the
knights of old, whose mind—motto
was still:
**Honi soil qui mal y peruse!"
With Wilson, we agree that if we
judge by ourselves this is a wicked
world, we unwillingly confab But it
is best not to be terrified at trifles
and we should avoid gross censures
of innocent and delicate delights
Don’fc you remember, Mr. Editor, how
Byron’s exquisitely sensitive modesty
was shocked when he saw the mazy
waltz ?
We think that the Skating Bink is
a delightful and innocent place of
amusement for both ladies and gentle
i en, and would recommend it as a fit
and proper place to spend an evening
occasionally, during the winter, not
withstanding “mawkish modesty” and
“mouthing morality.”
Then, with a Literary Society, Mu
sical Society, Social Club and Skating
Bink, and last, but not least iu impor
tance, your prayer meetings held at
all of the Churches, weekly, the young
ladies and gentlemen can pass away
pleasantly and improvingly, both tem
porally and spiritually these dreary,
dull and long winter evenings.

What Makes Home.
Beauty is ft great thing; but beauty
of garmeuta, house, and furniture, is a
very tawdry ornament compared with
domeetic love. All the elegance in the
world will not make a heme, and I
would give more for a spoonful of real
hearty love than for whole shiploads
of furniture, and all the gorgeou«ness
that the upholsterers of the world could
gather together.
