Let us meet together and interchange views as to the best course to be pursued to restore our country to her wanted po sition in the Union again, and secure the blessings of protection to Life, Lib city and Property, that peace, prosper ity, and fraternal feelings may again abound over the laud. “Come, one ! Come, all! Come and let us reason together.” Many Citizens. Cartersville, March Ist, 1867. Messrs. Editors : —ln your issue of last week, you were pleased to call the attention of the town authorities to the burviug ground, or grave yard, at the site of where once stood our Baptist Church. The rapid in< rease of popu lation and buildings in Cartersville, has materially changed the character ol lo cation ; now the present site of said bur\ ing ground, instead ol being oil the out-skirt* of the village, is nearly sur rounded, by reason of the rapid im provements daily going up. You say the town authorities should slop the citizens from burying there, a till go back to tile old burying ground. We, as members of your Town Coun cil, with ton, are in luvor ol discon tinuing bur) ing at the site in question, luit will not move in the matter unless die Church and the legal representa tives of the donor, who gave the ground to the Church, ami friends are con .stnied. All this beautilul panoramtna may be seen, free of charge, by calling around, dbitraj). M ary Della Colbert, eldest child and daughter of Thompson, and Mrs. Martha Colbert of Slilesboro Ga« was born in Hancock Cos. Ga. June 21st 1849; born again and united with Ml. Zion Baptist Church, then under the pastoral charge of Rev. M. A, Clontz, in 1802; and died near Cedartown Ga. Dec. 28th 1800, at the residence of her uncle, Cap! Julius Peak, where she was making a short visit. Seldom has a community been so shocked and startled, as by the sudden announcement of her death, A few nights before, she had met with us at the closing exhibition of JStilesboro Insti tute, and participated in the vocal and instrumental music ami social glee of that occasion ; started the next day on a visit to some relatives but a few miles off, when 10, the announcement came back “she’s dead’—‘prepare her grave’. That stout form of blooming young wo manhood, a few days previous so vigor ous, was brought back to spend the last night at home, a liviu corpse, yet oeair tiful and lovely even in death. The long train of relatives and friends that followed her the next day to her last resting place, through drifting snow and chilling winds, as well as the many tears of beloved schoolmates and ac quaintances, on taking a last, farewell view, attested the high esteem in yvhicb she was held by them all. How sad it is to see one so young in years, so vigorous in health and so buoyant in hope, so suddenly called a way : To see the bright morning sun of human life,so suddenly eclipsed and and instantly go down in the dark night of the tomb. But there is hope, bright hope beyond itall' For as it is encou - aging to know thst the sun is ever shining with brilliant beams beyond the darkest storm-cloud Inal ever mantles earth—so when the bereave ments of Providence and troubles of life fill like a cloud around us, it is e quaily consoling to know that the smiles of a heavenly Father’s face are bright above and beyond them all: that he is too wise to err, too good to he unkind. “Judge not the Lord by feeble sense, But trust him for his grace ; Behind a frowning Providence He hides a smiling face”. The greatest consolation we could have at the grave is the hope that the deceased was prepared for the change. That consolation we have in this bereavement. For well do we remember when she gave her young heart to God. And we trust that, aid ed by his grace, and by the godly ex amples ami fervent prayers ol pious parents and friends, when the sudden summons eame, at the early watch, “Behold the Bride-Grooin cometh, go ye out to meet Ilim”—that she was standing with the “wise virgins”, with 1 nnp tr mimd and burning, ready to en ter into marriage supper of the Lamb forever. Letters of friendly greeting from her numerous friends at a distance, unap * pr’sed of her death, directed to her, are yet received by her sorrowing parents. This will bear them trie sad intelli gence that their much esteemed young friend Della Colbert is no more. — “Those who would hereafter find her, must seek her in the grave”. ‘Be ye also ready—lor in an hour that ye think not, lire Soil of Mail cometh”. The writer, having been her teacher from early girl-hood, knew how to ap preciate her in life, and can now re.il ize some of tne parental sorrow of her death, and bids her a life-long farewell ’till we meet again in the great school of Christ above.
