9f-i/„The people of Georgia extend their
hrait-lclt gratitude to their generous friends
"in Kentucky who have been so kind in contri
buting to the wants of our suffering v idows
nnd orphans in their destitution. We would
not forget flic people of Missouri, who have
«Iho made 1 1 In* al donations to this end ; among
whom we would mention the name of Walter
C. Care and others of St. Louis, also the name
of James Tcubuc a <1 others <>l Louisville, Ky.
who have -cut provisions to the destitute and
suffering through the solicitations of our A
g"n', Elijah Spriggs, of this county, and we
also extend our than s to Mr. Spriggs for his
(ntiring elforts to feed the hungry of this land.
U!■ hope that the good peop'e of these two
States will uoi 100/f upon him as an impostor,
for we can assure them that he is-'uly author
ized by Bartow County Court to proceed tc
these two States and solicit contributions for
the above stated purpose. Any contributions
forwarded through him to the people of this
section will he faithfully delivered and thank
tully received. M e are sorry to learn that the
R ilroads are * o torn to pieces by the late
fresh-t, that it is impos able to get ’ny provis
ions through from those States. We wish
M'. .Spriggs ahiitidant success in his most hu
mane and laudable undertaking, auo a safe re

JkirTlfK M K.VL I'.MIALL Loom.—'i’lte
editor of the Cuthbert Appeal lias been
shown one ol the Mendenhall Looms,
which, thr utjrli the ingenuity of Mr.
10. I'. Iloinaii. Master Machinest in the
Cutlibcn Factory, is now being run by
.power—having attached to it a prolect
>iug rod and stop-motion, so that, if the
s.untie fails to perform its duty, the
thread breaks, or the Loom in any way
gels out ol onler, it is stopped without
luc assistance ol the operator. The
in aclinic thus employed gives entire
saiislaciion, and proves nsell not only
t" he an invaluable hand-loom, hut a
good, as well as, cheap power loom.
J lit so looms, as is well known, are
being manufactured in the city of At
laiila, and as we have previously urged
i lie propriety ol pulling several of them
into operation here for the benefit ol
the poor, we do so again, more fVdjv
-convinced than cvei, that such an en*»
tcrpiise will not only greatly benefit
tlie poor, but would pay a Ituiidst.inc
.per cent, on all capital invested in it. —
•I’tit* company furnish all looms with a
.guarantee dial they do all that is claim
ad for them, Am loom that fails to and >
•inis tuny be retiirueil to the company
ami llit.* money will be refunded. A
L w of them bought by the city ora
•company of capitalists, would, if pul
into * <*pt*i atiou, either with or without
the application of power, be greatly
reimuieri’iivr, besides, would be an im
mense charity. We hope the people
will talk to Mr. Hush‘Pratt about this
mat tor.
The above we lake from the Atlanta
Netv lira, and commend it to the pe
nisal of our readers. This loom is
just the thing we need in this section
of the country, at this lime. Would
that every family had one in active op
eration, how ’different -would ae our
condition. For lurtiier particulars see
advortisoment in another column.
B£fu,'l’he new article of Washing
Soap, family rights of which are now
being sold in ibis market, by Mr. !$.
1(. Mi lion, at Uie-Car-tersville Hotel, is,
we think, emphatically a good tiling.
We have seen it demonstrated in a few
inst ances in all of which it was a elect
tied success. That it will exactly
accomplish all that is claimed for it, we
think doubtful, but that it is decidedly
an improvement on anything we have
seen going around in the soap hue, no
one who knows anything about it can
-doubt. It is cheap and simple—requi
ring no grease to make it. We have
given it only a partial test, and give it
as our opinion that it is a good tiling.
JfosgfLiVEttY Stable.—-Our young fi ieiul, J.
J. .bines, Jr., is now running the old Livery
Stable, on the East side of the Railroad, on his
own hook. He is amply provided with good
horses and vehicles wherewith to provide the
public who patronize the Strbfe man. His
former experience at the busi less eminently
qua ih.s torn for the vocation, os he knows ex
a tly how to lit a man out with stock adapted
to his gait of traveling* He can furnish the
prancing, liery steed, or the slow intt always
sure hightoga of more sedate spirit. He feeds
well and tabes good care oi stock committed
to his koejaiig, and charges moderately. We
have recently tried his stock, and con equent
jy know wiiereot we assert. £>ee his advertise
ment and then take a peep into his stables.
Jack Stacks, the inimitable hostler,
y jolly, good fellow, is always on hand
to fit out customers.
The Parsonage.
As the Parsonage for the Methodist Church
in this place-anil ofthis circuit has been suffi
ciently advanced to authorize the Preacher in
Charge, Rev. C. A. Evans, to move into it,
it becomes the duty of the church to see that
it is properly furnished with furniture and pio
visions. Duty and proper respect demands it,
and no one who claims to have a soul, and
who is identified with this branch of the clirist
utn church, wo trust, will refuse to contribute
a mite to enable the pastor to live and provide
for his 1 unity. A little from each member of
the chur-h.an 1 the friends of the church, will
supply the parsonage comfortably, and no one
will he impoverished by it. The time has been
on this circuit when it was only necessary for
the prea her to insinuate that he wanted any
thing to get it in abundance. But times have
changed now from what they were then. We
are all hard run to live, but we must remember
that tbe preacher must live too. Several mem
bers of the church in and around this place,
of all denominations, and some who are not
professors of religion, have already contribu
ted towards suj plying the parsonage, but not
half enough has been done yet to enable t c
preacher ami his family to even live comforta
bly. They have gone to house-keeping on
what little they have already got, relying up
on tin* generosity of the church and people lor
a competency to fortify them against want
and actua suffering. We dont want vou to
think, brother or sister Methodists, that we or
Mr. Evan.- arc* begging you, for, wetrust, none
are so lost to a sense of duty as that, hut we
only desire to apprise you of the fact that your
paator with his family have gone to house-keep
ing and the parsonage is but partially furnish,
ed. A hint to the wise is sufficient, we hope.
Preadiiiig at Hie Methodist L.
Church to-nigrht. (Friday.)
The REV. ATTIGUS G. HAYGOOD,
Piesiding Elder on the Rome District, .VI, E.
Church, will,, by divine permission, preach in
Ihe Methodisi E, Church in Cartersville, to
night, [Friday.] at the usnal hour.
He is on his way to attend the Second Quar
terly Meeting of the Cassville Circuit, M. E.
Church, at Brandon’s Chapel, on Saturday
and Sabbath next.
The t; rave Yard.
We learn that the Baptist Church in this
place have agreed to enclose the new grave
.yard and make it fctrictly a church grave yard
instead ol u public one. This is a step in the
light di ection, and will, we hope, prevent its
being much more enlarged. Its entire rent ov
al is thought inexpedient at this time. This
will necessitate the opening of a tew one tor
I üblic use, which should be looked after by
the citizens generally.
Fourt Adjourned.
The Superior Court ofthis county, after a
sesv ion of twelve days, closed the Sp ing term
in this place, on Tuesday evening last. No
criminal was sentenced to the Penitentiary.—
Most of the time of the Court *vas consumed
in try mg to adjust ohl contracts based on Con
federate money. Liberal discounts lor green
bicus upon the principles of justice and equity
both to debtor and creditor, were made in every
instance
Ihikcrj' and Confectionary'.
W e are pleased to learn that Mr. T. M.
Comp! in anticipates opening a regular Bakery
and Confectionary, in this place, as soon as
h'- vim effect his arrangements, until which
time he will receive daily supplies of fresh
lout Broad, Cakes, Cardies, from Atlan
ta, which lie will retail to the custom at ten
cents a loaf. 'I his will prove a great conveni
ence to our citizens generally, and something
that has long been needed in Cartersvilie,
BhjrWe regret very much the necessity of
having to allude so often to our church mat
tors through our paper; but what is every
one’s business is no one’s business is an old but
iruthful saying. We learn that religious ser
vices have been almost deferred in our church
es at nights for want of lights. These beauti
ful Sabbath evenings arc suffered to pass off
u..improved on this account, The preachers
are wiling to ipreach and the people to hear,
but tor this cause. The pastors of the Baptist
and Presbyterian churches reside in the coun
try some distance from town, which will ren
dernta little inconvenient tor them to attend at
night, and no preachers of cither of these de
nominations live in town ; but there is no good
reason why service should not be had at the
Methodist church, as the pastor and several
local preachers live here. This church needs
other repairs badly, which we insist should be
consummated at an early day. No single in
dividual is to be blamed for its not already hav
ing been done, is the reason why we lirect at
tention to the mat er.
gijgpW e invite attention to an excellent
original story commenced on the first page of
this paper, entitled “Vernon,” which will be
continued.

Fields llridge in Cherokee County.—
Both mare mules, one is a large size
compactly made, rout’d boddied mule
about five or six years old, light bay
color, she was shaved about six weeks
ago. The other is a very dark brown
or black mare mule, branded “(J. S.”
on the left shoulder, about five or six

boddied and is in good order, They also
look with the mules an old wagon sad

leather, the original skirt on one side
and a different one on the opposite
side. I will give §IOO for the mules
with evidence to convict the thief, or
I will give a liberal reward for the safe

Keparator Capilli
Throw away your false frizzles, your switches,
your wig
Destructive of comfort, and not worth a fig :
Com., aged, come youthful, come ugly and fair,
And rejoice in your own luxuriant hair.
KEPAKATOR C4PILEI.
For restoring hair upon bald heads (from
whatever cause it may have fa I en out) and
forcing a growth of hair upon the face, it has
no equal. It will force the beard to grow up
on the smoothest in from five to eight week-q
or hair upon bald heads in from two to three
months. A few ignorant practitioners have
asserted that there is nothing that will forte or
hasten tne growth of hair or beard. Their as
sertions are false, as thousands of living wit
nesses [from their own experience] can bear
witness, but many will say how arc we to
distinguish the genuine from the spurious ? '
It certainly is difficult, a3 nine-tenths of the
Prep nations advertised f r the hair and beard
are entirely worthier.*, and you may have al
ready thrown away large amounts in theii
purchase. To such we would say, try the j
Reparator Capilli; it will cost you nothing
unless it fully comes up to our representations - •
If your Druggist dots not keep it, send us One j
dollar and we will forward it, postpaid, togeth
er with a receipt for the monev, vvh’ch will be
returned you on applies*;,,n, ’ provided entire
