Military institute, if we mistake not. So don’t be afraid to stop there for a meal when passing. State of Deseret. —The Mormons have formed a constitution lor their ad mission into the Unimt under the name ot the State of Deseret, and sent it to Con gress. Peaches not killed. —We learn from some of our friends that peach es are not all killed, but that there are yet on the trees about a half crop.— This is encouraging news, for the fruit crop is a very important one, especially in this section, as a great many of our poor people are depending on the fruit for subsistance during the summer months. in want of anything in the Hardware line, should not fail to read the advertisement ot Messrs. We have been about many hotels, in our time, but was never bet ter treated and felt more at home than at the American Hotel, Atlanta, Ga.— Everybody, nearly, thinks so and that is the reason it heads the list of arrivals. Compton has just received from New York his new stock of School and Miscellane ous Hooks, and is constantly receiving fresh Bread from the Bakery. Those who wish fresh bread daily will please report to him how many loaves they will require, so that he may make daily arrangements. He hopes that all the reading people ol Carlersville and vicinity, will meet at the Methodist Church, on Monday night next, to form a Reading Society or Mutual Library, by which one mem- ! her may be able to read all the books of the Society, by paying a small con tribution. She had been, for a number of years, a mem ber of the Methodist E. Church, and diet! as she had lived --calmly and peacefully. The Wisconsin State Journal pub* lishes a list of confirmations and rejections by the United States Senate under the captious “Many are called but few are chosen,” The Southern Cultivator. —The April number of this well known agri cultural journal contains 48 wages—34 of reading matter, mostly original. It is embellished with a tasteful design and ground plan of a convenient dwell' ing—the first of a scries, David Dickson, the most successful planter in Georgia, gives two which, with over thirty other origins 1 articles, on topics pertaining to the Farm, Garden and Fireside—such as Cotton Culture, Manures, Grasses. Sorghum and other crops, Sheep, Im plements—Grapes, Peaches, Vegeta bles—-a letter from Gernes Munro, 4*c., A e., fully sustain the reputation of this valuable paper, which has been regu larly issued for nearly tweiitv-hvc vears. 0 Gen. Eahi.y’s Book.—Geo. E. W. Nelson, of Augusta, advertises as now ready for delivery, General Early’s history of the Valiev campaign in Vir ginia in 1804. Many in our midst know personally that that campaign, conducted by General E, was one of the most arduous, as the period was one of the most interesting and trying of the whole war. No one is mote competent to write truthfully its history than old Juball himself. The Land We Love. —The April number of this excellent Southern Magazine has reached us, aud is filled with interesting reading matter for the old and young. Revival of Religion in Nashville. —A religious revival, described as the most extensive ever witnessed in Nash ville, has been in progress there for the last three weeks. In that time one hundred and thirty persons have join ed the First Presbyterian Church, Dr. Bunting’s and scores to the other churches ot that city. The National debt was reduced fif teen millions dollars duiing the month of March. A flying machine in California is expecteu by its projectors to make a trip across the continent in twenty four hours. A lady in Aiken, South Carolina, presented her husband with four line male children. At last accouts the father had not recovered from his astonishment. Mississippi Moves for an Injunc tion. The Mississippian learns from undoubted authority that Judge Shar key telegraphed to Gov. Humphreys for permission to file a bill in the name of the State of Mississppi, to enjoin all proceedings to subject the people ol this State to military rule, under the recent act of "Cong-ess, and that the Governor immediately replied, giving the desired author ity. Since the Governor has received a tele graph from Judge Sharkey upon the subject stating the ‘-prospects arc good. ’’ Such being the condition of things, it would be advisable for the people in nil the States (we beg pardon—Districts!) to possess their souls in patience and await the adjudication of the Courts. From Pennsylvania. Harrisburg, March 22, p. in. —Gov- ernor Geary signed a bill requiring railroad companies to carry passengers without distinction of color. Sloped.— -The Rev. Win. Wells, pastor of the African M. E- Church North, at Clackesville, Tennessee, hired a horse and buggy recently, drove to a neighboring town, and sold the turn-out on the public square for £BS and absconded successfully. It turned out afterward that he carried with him about £BOO belonging to the above mentioned African church, which was in his hands for safe-keeping.
