Please do not wait for a collect or, for none will be sent. The big cotton mill will soon be started. Cartersville will grow right along if you will let it. Get busy on that railroad from Rome to Gainesville. Russia seems to lie awake nights planning for trouble. We need more factories and a greater variety of products. Democracy expects every voter to do his duty on November 8. The latest advices from the east are that the Japs have taken Cas toria. Where, oh where are those terri ble Cossacks of Don we used to read about? * You will have to search the state with a microscope to find a county in better condition than Bartow. If Admiral Hotairsky goes to butting into the British lionsky he will very likely set his headsky cr ckedsky. Don’t forget to go to the polls on November 8 and vote the demo cratic ticket straight from top to bottom. All aboard for Pine Log, Fair mount, Carters, and Spring Place! Train leaved in four minutes from tenth track! Ex-Senator Hill went over into Indiana the other day, and after a careful survey of the situation, de clared that it was his opinion that that state would go democratic. The Russians got in another of their school boy freaks when they shot up a few English fishing boats la.->t Saturday. Russia seems to be very much in need of a guardian anyway. The Cartersville Auxiliary of the Home Missions extend a cor dial invitation to all denominations to attend, the meetings ot the Dis trict Societies at v the Methodist church.. And now comes Acworth and says she wants anew county. The iuca is to cut on strip from the north side of Cobb and the south side of Bartow and thus form a new county with Acworth as the capital. Capt. J- J. Conner, vice president of the State Fair Association is doing excellent work for the suc cess of the fair which is now in progress at Macon. Capt. Conner has teen enthusiastically devoted to the work from the start and his efforts have aided as much as any man’s the success of the enterprise. That Other Road. The news that a movement has been started to build a line of rail road from Gainesville via Carters ville to Rome should bring good cheer to the citizens of this city. The situation is one which natu rally demands a road. The condi tions, formed by nature and the development of this region’s re sources, have made the line from Rome to Gainesville a necessity. It will be built sooner or later, and the people of Cartersville are vi- tally interested in its construction We should see to it that every thing is done that we can do to hasten and help the matter along. We need this other new railroad in our business. Let’s get out after it. A Pressing Need. A pressing need just now in Car tersvilie is more buildings for resi dence purposes. Not necessarily better buildings than now obtain but more of them. Perhaps they should be a cheaper rather than of a costly class. There is.considera ble vacant property within the city limits which should be used for this purpose. If this vacant land were used for building purposes the pressing need for homes would be met to a large extent and the appearance of the city would be very greatly improved. The News has spoken of this matter before but it is so vital and so important to the growth and ex pansion of Cartersville that we cannot refrain from again calling attention to it. No town can grow and acquire population unless that population can obtain homes. There is also need for modern business buildings, Cartersville needs a few buildings of the most np-to date pattern. We have be fore spoken of the need of a modern hotel building, one which would cost $75,000 to SIOO,OOO. A commodious Masonic temple and office building is another need of the hour. Now is the time to dress up t'a te sville. Let’s get together and do about. For White Primary. There is considerable discussion among the citizens of Cartersville regarding a white primary for the coming city election in January. It is urged by those who favor the movement that the white pri mary will remove the objectionable scramble from the municipal elec tions and will make them much more den t and orderly than can be hoped for under the other con ditions. Othe-towns have tried the white primary and have found them ex tremely satisfactory, it is urged 'T am in favor,” said a well known citizen in speaking of the matter, “of doing just as they have done in Atlanta and elsewhere. Call a mass meeting and appoint an executive committee to take the matter in hand. Then hold the primary about December ist, and use the Australian ballot. Altanta does it, and it works beautifully, and it is the very thing we need in Carters ville. I am for it, and I think a majority of the people of Carters ville are with me.” Next to the proverbial shilling, perhaps the smallest legacy has been inherited by a native o-f New Zea land. He had a son who died in the Dutch Indies and left him his effects, amounting to thirteen pence | halfpenny. The money was payable at Middleburg, and the man had to walk ten Dutch leagues for it, los * ing a day’s work. London An swers.
