Theprofit of a gold minedepends, not on the amount of rock crusded under the stamps, but upon‘the amount of gold which can be ex tracted from the rock. In a similar way the value of the iood which is eaten does not de pend on the quantity which is taken iqto the stomach but upon the amount of nourishment ex tracted from it by the organs of nu trition and digestion. When these organs are diseased they fail to ex tract the nourishment in sufficient quantities to supply the needs of the several organs of the bodyjand these organs cannot work without nourishment. The result is heart “trouble,” liver “trouble” and mnnv another ailment. Dr. Pierce’s Gol den Medical Discovery, acting on every organ cf the digestion with vigor. LHE NEWS, CARTERSVILLE GEORGIA, NOVEMBER 11, lOOL With all her vast territories and 130,000.000 population, Russia raises less than half the wheat produced in the United States. If that country would dismiss half its soldiery and set them to farming, dismantle hei warships and use the funds in manufacturing, cease spending billions in war and use the funds to establish schools for the people; in other words, if she should abandon the ways of bar barism and those of civil ization, she would not continue to be the object of contempt and dread which makes her a terror to the nations As the blunt old far- j mer once said of the southern peo- 1 pie, they should raise more corn and less hell, work more with their hands and less with their j mouths. It is the peaceful pursuits of industry, free government and j enlightenment, that make a great nation, and not the ability kill and destroy, which have a|§vays been Russia’s chief characteristics.
