FIREMEN’S FALL FESTIVAL, .

Weil Kmvu Methodist tried by Coafe ence
ai Marietta.
A report from Marietta to the
Constitution of Saturday says:
A minimum amount of words
and a maximum amount of work
that is of interest to every charge
of North Georgia conference
characterized the third session of
the thirty eighth annual meeting
ct the body this morning.
Naturally the most interesting
incident of the day to laymen and
churchmen who are not allied with
Methoiism was the finding of the
trial committee in thj charges
ngainst Rev. W. R Foote, 1). D. or
Rome, Ga. The verdict of the
l at committee is as follows:
“We the committee of trial in
tle case of Rev. W. R. Foote,
charged with immorality, find the
accused guilty, and recommend
that he be suspended for the
ensuing year.
“S. R- Belk. M. H Eakes, J. E.
England, W. F. Roberson, J. C.
Atkinson, J. A. Sewell, J. D. Tur
ner, C. H Branch and J. W.
Gober.”
L. W Rivers, the chairman of
the trial committee, and S. P.
Wiggins, the secretary, designated
by Dr. J. W. Heid,t. the conference
;cretary, to act for the committee,
: not sign the report, as they are
custom declared iO be not
■ir-übers of the jury.
The verdict was read in a very
emn voice early this morning by
Hedit. and it was recived with
essions of sorrow by the mem
of the conference, who are
much attached to Dr. Foote
no were much pained by the
ig of the trial committee.
th benefit of the laymen
lose who are not connected
Methodism it should be stated
vhile charge is “immorality”
ot to be inferred that Dr.
is found guilty of anything
serious than intxication, an
-ive use of stimulants being
.1 ‘immorality” under the
, the general conference of
i , ' ethodist church.

Hon. W. S. Coleman, the well
known and popular editor of the
Cedartown Standard, passed
through Cartersville Sunday, en
route to Marietta. Mr. Coleman

Russell, makes one of best news
papers in Georgia.
We are glad to see but few
people leading this fall for Texas
and the far west. Last fall the
number was very large. The
mountains of North Geoigiaand
North Carolina supplied the rest
less crowd that wended its way
to the west, hunting new homes
and fortune®. A number have
returned, and doubtless this has
discouraged others who contem
plated a move. Now and then
you hear of a Cobb countian who
is selliug out “going to Texas”
but they are few and far between.
Other families move in and take
their places aud the world moves
on serene and the sun rises and
sets as usual. —Marietta Journal.
