The Christmas offering by the Baptist congregation iast Sunday was flattering indeed. The final results will not be announced until next Sunday, January, ist 1905 It is expected that a goodly num ber who have not yet responded will be beard from during this week. The collections during the day last Sunday were between six and seven hundred dollars. So you see our Christmas offering is already a-success. All our mem bers who wish to join in this must act by Saturday, 31st inst If vou do not hurry you will miss a great blessing. Out members who were not at church last Sunday missed a rich blessing. When the dea cons- had taken up the offering, and the ladies saw the baskets heaped up with envelopes, some of them could hardly keep from shouting. It was a great day, the greatest Christmas day the Cart er-ville Baptist church ever saw. Those who were not there missed much that they need very badly. Let all the members who have: not turned in their offerings do so before Saturday night of this week. Hand it to the pastor or mail it to him this week sure. Some have asked me if we will be able to cover (he building in before we slopwork on it. Let all rest assured that we will not only be able to cover it in, but we will be able to complete the building and furnish it, ready for occupancy, before work is stopped. We are going on to completion. All who wish to have a part in this great work must act within the next few months. John E. Barnard. Pastor. Lodge of SOl row. The Chicago Chronicle justly says that “'the south does itself |an injury in not' securing a large part of the immigrants to this 1 country. Wiih the propel care that is now taken, the foreigners landing on our shores aredesirable. The south has need of them. With immense tracts of land waiting the 'labor of the farmer and horticultur ist, with a soil that responds prompt ly to the attention given to it, with a genial clime, it is a pity that he various resources of the south should not be more fully devel oped.” The successor of Henry Ward Beecher recently said to his con gregation: “You are eating many kinds of food, pouring wine down youi throats, saturating youiselves with all kinds of ease and luxuries and then preparing to die out of life, when God has put you here for something better. You’re not happy, but in seven days I could make you happv. Organize the resources of life in the interest of the poor and weak, and for misery you will have happiness, for self ishness that corrodes you will have a blade that flashes more and more, and then you will know real lux ujy —luxury of service.” Miss Estelle Strickland hasjreturned from Lucy Cobb’s, and spent Christ mas at home.
