CONGRESSMAN LEE
WRITES CHIBS
Tells the 4.000 Boys of
Work of Club
Congressman Lee has directed the
following letter to 4,000 boys who
have, some time In the past, beeft
engaged iu the corn club work In
this district:
Washington, D. C„ February I,
1917.
My Dear Friend:
Tha time Is near at. band for the
enrollment of the members of the
Boy's Corn club of your county for
the coming year, and as you hive
been In oue or more annual contests
since this work was orgauUed iu the
Baventh district, and as I know you
realize the benefits yon derived from
the work, 1 hope you will do ill yofi
oan to get the boys in your neigh*
borhood to join. Let us all work to
gether and see If we can have the
largest enrollment this year that VfS
have ever had in our district. Of
course if you are within the age lim
it I afu expecting you back in' the
club this ye&r with a determination
to surpass your record of last year,
which from the unfavorable spasons
proyed discouraging to many mem
bers of the cl oh, I am offering mf
usual prizes this year and I am sure
the progressive citizens of your
county will liberally supplement
them.
I think the Boys Corn club*.are
doing a great work In Georgia and
they have been largely Insteumen
tal in increasing the com crop more
than 30,000,000 bushels per annum
Much of this increase is due to the
young farmers, who through a year
of more in the corn club of their
county, have learned the principals
of soentific agriculture as applied to
corn growing, f hope your member
ship in the corn club has caused you
to decide to make farming your vo
cation for life. There is no calling
tnat. to my mind is a* noble, but to
lunkea success of It demands as
| much study as any other prerfewfoo
1 trust you will make your plan* l to
jstndy agriculture tn some of our
schools and edtleges, even If you can
only take a short oonrwe. Yon wilt
And this will be of wonderful benefit
to you. '
Since the corn club work was or
ganized in the Seventh district in
1911, over 5,000 young farmers like
yourself have studied end worked
over the problem of getting the best
possible-yield of corn on on* acre, at
tbe lowest possible cost. These boys
have demonstrated that our seotion
of the state is the garden spot of the
world. And when (hey get to he
men they are going>fo make this
district surpass all others in agriouls
t-iral wealth and in the number of
happy- prosperous country homes,
With all good wighea for your suc
cess the coming year, 1 aui
Sincerely yours,
Gordon Lee.
