THURSDAY, NOV. 7, 1901.
Savannah is having a good time
with the state fair.
The horse sh jw and red vest aie
gone for a season.
The general assembly has started
off as though it meant business.
The legislature adjourned over
yesterday to take in the state fair
at Savannah.
The vote in Greater New York
was the largest ever known in an
American municipality.
Great Britain is negotiating a
big loan to buy more mules. And
still the Boers are not w hipped.
The coming congress will be
asked to provide for building thir
ty-two new warships at a cost ot
$55,000,000.
Russia's Transsberian railroad
has been completed but as >et it is
not a world’s thoroughfare, being
devoted mostly to Russia’s inter
ests.
All Washington is regretful at
the recalling of Wu Ting Fang,
the Chinese minister, who has
been by all odds the most popular
of the foreign representatives,
The occupants of an escaped bal
loon landed all right at San Fran
cisco. They had a very breezy if
thrilling little ride above the sea,
having been swept out by the
winds.
Gorman is being spoken of in
connection with the democratic
nomination for president. As Shep
ard wasn’t elected mayor of New
York his star will not be in the as
cendancy.
The republican papers shout yet
for a bigger aimy in the Phillip
pines asserting at the same time,
some of them, that a general aid
swift cleaning out of the rebels
should be a job looked after. Sure
ly there has been time and force
enough to have effected a “clean
ing out” if such was the policy.
The republicans don’t know' what
they want, except fat places and
fat contracts for their favorites.
Stop Hm
Blight
It is a sad thing to see fine
fruit trees spoiled by the blight,
You can always tell them from
the rest. They never do well
*
afterwards but stay small and
sickly.
It is worse to see a blight
strike children. Good health
is the natural right of children.
But some of them don’t get
their rights. While the rest
grow big and strong one stays
small and weak.
Scott’s Emulsion can stop
that blight. There is no
reason why such a child should
stay small. Scott’s Emulsion
is a medicine with lots of
strength in it—the kind of
strength that makes things
grow.
Scott’s Emulsion makes
children grow, makes them eat,
makes them sleep, makes them
play. Give the weak child a
chance. Scott’s Emulsion will
make it catch up
with the rest.

A CLOTHING AND SHOE TALK
Strouse & Bro., of Baltimore, Md., are
makers of the celebrated “High Art Cloth
ing.” We are their agents in Cartersville.
Their goods have no superior ior fit, work
manship and the minor details that go to
make up a nice suit of clothes.
Out sorck is full and complete and we
want to fit you up with one of their suits.
We carry also another special line of cloth
ing, the Mayfield Woolen Mills Clothing
and Pants, that for hard wear can’t be beat.
Get some of their clothes that have the pic
ture of a sheep on them and they will stay
with you and never fade.
HEYWOOD SHOES WEAR.
They come in box calf, velour and old
fashioned calf skin. If you will try s pair
you will buy them again and thank us for
calling your attention to them,
A fresh lot of JOHN B. 3TETSON HATS
just arrived.

Carnegie and some other commer
cial magnates now favor a tariff
eduction, and such a policy is in
favor largely' with republicans,
President McKinley leading off on
inat line beioie his tragic death.
That the rich who have been receiv
ing the benefits, aver in so many
v o ds they do not need h gh tariff,
is evidence that class advantages
have gone to a class as a simple
gift. The probable change of front
of republicans on this line may be
intended as a leverage for success,
the convictions of the country
being reckond as fast trending that
way, or as a heading off
cratic purpose. The voter should
remember when the time comes
that tariff reduction has been a
principle of the democratic party
time honored and strongly ground
ed.
The boy cr young man who sys
tematically saves his earnings will
eventually become the employer of
those whi spend every cent they
can get There is not so much in
the amount saved as in the habit
formed. Business opportunities
will inevitably come to the young
man who makes the proper effort
o prepare himself to meet them
and the best way to accomplish this
is to save your earnings for future
investment.
It is needless to remind those
Savannah visitors who know', but
to those who don’t know’ it is well
enough to say: “Beware of artil
lery punch,” for as the late lament
j ed Col. Bill Harris, of Worth, said,
! “it is stronger than it looks.”
The Atlanta papers are taking
their annual turn at the depot in

representing the ear shed as a
death trap are for the special bene
fit of the Georgia legislature.
Seth Low 1 , the fusion candidate
for mayor of New York, was elected
on Tuesday over Edward M. Shep

plurality ranging from thirty to
forty thousand.
